Robert Mehnert Obituary

Robert Jay Mehnert, Sr., 71, Born February 22, 1936 in Ohio, raised in New Jersey, and passed away in Webster, Texas January 6, 2008. Bob served in the Army three years where he worked on NIKE missiles and played softball on the Army team. He was employed by IBM for 32 years and worked on the space shuttle program. He raced hydroplane boats competitively during his youth. His hobbies included cowboy action shooting, model railroading, AMA car racing, and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents Allen Edward and Dorothy Porter Mehnert; and four brothers: Richard, Douglas, James, and Philip. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Eileen Hickson Mehnert; a daughter: Donna Lee Mehnert of Elgin; son, Robert Jay Mehnert, Jr. of Juno Beach, Fl.; and brother, Allen Edward Mehnert III and wife Nita of Springhill, Fl. The Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr. (FM 518), Friendswood, Texas 77546, (281) 992-7200, www.jeterfuneralhome.com. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Ralph Hobratschk officiating. The Burial will take place Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Somerset Memorial Park Cemetery in Somerset, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friendswood EMS, Attn. Lisa Camp, 1000 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 or Friendswood Education Foundation, Attn: Laura Riveron, 302 Laurel Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546.
