Robert Overton Obituary

Robert "Bob" Elting Overton, 77, is now at perfect peace, experiencing all joy in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, after passing away at his home in Katy, TX on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, following a 16+ year battle with cancer. Born in Orange, NJ in 1936 to Elting and Velma (Bird) Overton, Bob graduated from Grover Cleveland High School and Pennsylvania Military College (Widener University), where he was a Theta Chi and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Bob was very proud of his service to our country and had a remarkable career in Sales and Direct Marketing. Bob was truly passionate about his faith, family, and friends… He Never Met A Stranger. Bob's favorite scripture, Isaiah 43:5 was a great source of comfort and inspiration to him: "Do not fear, for I am with you."
Bob will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Carolyn (Johnson), The Love of His Life. Carolyn and Bob partnered in every way. Bob was also extremely loving and proud of his three daughters and their husbands, Cheryl Overton Spaans and her husband David, of Coppell, TX; Susan Overton Barré and her husband Tony, of Lake Jackson, TX; and Lori Overton Fisher McMahon and her husband John, of Katy, TX. Bob "Grampy," is also survived by his precious grandchildren Samantha (and husband Brett), Shannon, Stacey, Lauren, Michael, Robert, Colton (and fiancée Melissa), Ashley, and Jacob. He is also survived by his brother Bruce B. Overton and sister-in-law Charlene of Gainesville, GA; his sister-in-law Elaine J. Nelson and husband Brad of Quincy, MA; his brother-in-law Donald Johnson and wife Shirley of Lady Lake, FL; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Bob's family would like to thank the compassionate staff at MD Anderson hospital, whom we consider Angels. We would also like to thank Bob's Hospice Caregivers Golda, Prince, Cheryl and Gloria.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14th from 5:00-7:00pm at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX. A celebration of Bob's life will be on Saturday, February 15th at 11:00am at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, 14200 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079 with a reception and light lunch following in the Fellowship Hall. Inurnment will be in Eastham, MA.
Bob was passionate about getting a new sign for the front of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church to convey our Church's mission. He worked hard researching sign companies all over our region. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to join us in contributing to the "CMLC Sign Fund" to honor Bob's memory and fulfill his wish (see address above). I'm so sorry to learn of Bob's passing. He was one year ahead of me at P.M.C., and a really great guy...warm and compassionate, with a great sense of humor. The world is a lesser place for his passing.
