Robert "Bob" Frederick Weigle
09/27/1932 - 04/14/2023
Robert "Bob" Frederick Weigle was born in Queens, New York, on September 27, 1932 to Frederick and Florence Weigle. He spent his formative years in the warm embrace of New York City where he met the future love of his life, Barbara Rashbrook, at age 11.
He joined the US Marine Corps in 1950 at the age of 17 and served with the Sixth Fleet in Europe and also in Korea. Bob received a meritorious commission as an intelligence officer at the age of 20 and he was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1955. Under the GI Bill, he attended Hofstra University and graduated in 3 years in 1958.
His first job was for Procter and Gamble in their New York offices. In 1960, he went to work for Shell Oil where he devoted the remainder of his 34-year long career in assignments of increasing responsibility in New York, Chicago, Sacramento, and Houston. When Robert retired at age 58, he was Vice President of Corporate Accounts for the Shell Oil Company Chemical Division.
Bob was an avid sportsman and devoted much time to perfecting his golf shot as a member at Lakeside Country Club in Houston, Texas. He was especially proud of his 2 sons as they grew up playing football, one of whom played collegiate football. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame's football team.
His Lakeside co-members warmly embraced Robert to their posse of golfers, both young and old, and celebrated his fondest memory when he first shot a hole-in-one on his home course.
Many of the staff members were upset to hear of his passing, as he was much-loved by the staff, never forgetting a name or failing to be generous. He was engaging, kind, and incredibly charitable. Bob was a force of nature with a booming voice who demanded to be heard. Yet he also had a soft spot for those he loved.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart, Barbara; his beloved sister, Joan; and his children, Robert, Richard, and Karin and their spouses Catherine, Angel, and Jonathan Sollender. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Larsen; Luke; Kaitlin Winn, née Weigle, and husband Brian and son Huxton; Alecia; Grace Sollender; Jonathan Sollender and wife Megan; Grayson Sollender; and Ian Sollender.
He passed away at home on April 14, 2023 surrounded by his family. He will be missed by many and never forgotten. Funeral arrangements are still to be planned, please visit
