Robert Wullschleger Obituary

Robert Lacy Wullschleger
1948-2021
Robert Lacy Wullschleger, 73, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by his family. Robert (better known as Butch or Bob) was born January 5, 1948, in Pittsburg, Texas, to Sherrill Wullschleger and Oneta Birdwell Wullschleger. The family eventually settled in New Braunfels, Texas, where Bob graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1966. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southwest Texas State University and served in the National Guard. During college, Bob also played lead drums for a band, the Mad Mods, and performed with them at numerous venues.
Bob's career in the oilfield services industry spanned 40 years, which allowed him to travel extensively and develop a love of different cultures around the world. Upon his retirement in 2015, Bob, along with his beloved wife, Jeannie, fulfilled a lifelong dream of retiring in Belize where he enjoyed fishing, good wine and spending time with his devoted German Shepherd, Orchid.
Additionally, Bob served his community honorably as a volunteer firefighter with the Spring Fire Department for over 11 years.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Rebecca Janeen Laws Wullschleger, and his children, Jason Wullschleger and partner, Quentin Dunn, of Houston; and Marti Titus (Morris) and husband, Kevin Morris, of Anchorage, Alaska; grandson Keegan Morris, of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Sherilyn Wullschleger (Kozodoy) and husband, Jay Kozodoy, of Houston; and numerous nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be October 15 at 11 a.m. at Bradshaw Carter Memorial and Funeral Home located at 1734 W. Alabama St., Houston, Texas, 77098. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Spring Firefighter Assistance Fund c/o, Spring Fire Department, 656 E. Louetta, Spring, Texas 77373.

Bob was a good friend and an outstanding individual. Charitable with his time, always a couple of jokes (some funny), did what he said he was going to do, would go out of his way to help others and always loved a bit of adventure. Memories started in Houston some 37 years ago and stretched around the world, hunting, fishing, work and just good living. It has been our pleasure to have known him. He will be missed but not forgotten! Our condolences to Jeannie, Jason and Marti. We love you all!

Bob was one of the first guys I met at Station 71, in Old Town Spring, back in 1994. He was great instructor, mentor, and friend. As a testament to his bravery, he was one of the few guys that was willing to assist me with becoming a cleared driver(picture drivers ed instructor, but in a fire truck). Thankfully, we both survived.

Bob and Jeannie probably never realized how wonderful they were to us as hosts and friends during our time in Belize. Our Gringo Lunches were a highlight of the week, and we loved visiting you both at your lovely spot on the lagoon, and Orchid! Bob was a great fishing buddy for Ron. Ron remembers : 6.30 in the morning, and they crack their first beer of the day for "good luck." The time passes and suddenly Bob has hooked a large tarpon. The reel spins and all the line plays out. The tarpon jumps completely out of the water, spits out the lure and Bob looks down. All that's left is his rod. The reel is completely empty. No line. No tarpon. No lure. So they have another beer.
Love to you both,
Trish and Ron.
