Roland J. Maddox

ROLAND J. MADDOX 1-22-05 ROLAND J. MADDOX, 79, of Dickinson, passed away quietly January 21, 2005. Roland was born in 1925 in Kilgore, Louisiana, and grew up in Houston. A graduate of Milby High Class of 1941, he received his Chemical Engineering Degree from Rice Institute, and immediately upon graduation, served his country in the U.S. Navy at the close of WWII. Roland's life was devoted to Free Masonry, and was active in local Houston and Galveston organizations as well as serving on a state level. He served on the Texas Knights Templar Educational Foundation Board and was instrumental in providing deserving students with scholarships and grants. Before his retirement in the late 1980's, Roland worked for Texas City Refining, Inc. (now Valero), and served on the board of the credit union for many years. Roland was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dickinson and served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher and a Choir Member. In his younger days, Roland served the community as a Scout Master, and attained the honor of the Silver Beaver for his efforts with the Bay Area Council. Roland loved classical music, camping and hiking, and was a devoted cat lover. Roland is survived by his sister, Barbara (Bobbie) Mitchell of Las Vegas; his four children and their families: Michael & Donna Maddox and son Greg; Daniel & Bunnie Maddox and their children Joseph & Diana; Matthew Maddox; and Allison & Bob Brown; and his former wife, Phyllis Rogers of Houston. A Visitation will be held Sunday, January 23, 2005. Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 5:00 pm at Forest Park Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston. The Funeral will be held on Monday, January 24, 2005 at 11:00 am in the Main Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale. A Masonic graveside will follow. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, or to the Texas Knights Templar Educational Foundation, 507 South Harwood Lane, Dallas, Texas.
