Ross Baker Obituary

Ross Grady Baker
1925-2021
Ross Grady Baker died peacefully at home on November 24, 2021 at the age of 96. A native Houstonian, he was the son of Hines Holt Baker and Thelma Kelley Baker. He was greatly loved by everyone in his life and is missed dearly.
In his early years, he attended Montrose Elementary and Lamar High School. He graduated from Phillips Academy (Andover) in 1943. He entered the Marines officer training program at Georgia Tech during the war. He graduated from Yale University in 1945 and attended the University of Texas Graduate School before serving in the Korean War as a trainer in the United States Marine Corps.
He married his true love Dorothy Morris in 1953. The couple had three children: Ross Jr., Kelley, and Amy. They were rarely separated over the course of the next 68 years.
Ross made his career in the energy sector.
An avid golfer, Ross was a longtime member of the River Oaks Country Club, where he enjoyed many games with his father or brother and friends. A devoted fan of Texas Longhorn football, he frequently made the drive to Austin to support the team. A movie buff, he enjoyed films from the classic age of cinema until the present. He also took a keen interest in history, reading books sometimes from dawn till dusk.
Ross is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his son, Ross Jr.; his daughter, Amy Ferguson (husband Steve); and five grandchildren: Rachael, Alexander, Grady, Fiona, and Nieve. He was predeceased by a son, sister, and brother (Kelley Baker, Louise McCartney, and Hines Baker, Jr).
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 3rd at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with a reception following in the Hines and Thelma Baker Room.
