Roy Wylie was born to Earl and Joyce Wylie who both preceded him in death. He is survived by brother William, sister Joan Wolfinger, brother-in-law David as well as nephew Mark W. Wylie, M.D. and his wife Kristen; nieces Laura Hickerson, her husband Kevin, Jennifer Turner and Melissa Meyer, her husband Tom as well as several great nephews and nieces whom Roy enjoyed immensely.
Roy went to heaven after a brief illness shortly after finishing cancer treatments. He grew up in Houston. Roy loved music. He graduated from S.M.U. with a music degree and pursed post-graduate studies at the Juilliard School of Music. He received his doctorate decree from the University of Texas at Austin. He was named Professor Emeritus at Auburn University at the culmination of his 27 year career in education .
Roy received many awards for his abilities as a pianist. He dedicated many summers as a piano accompanist at the world renowned American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. He was named Teacher of the Year by both the Alabama Music Teachers' Association (2022) and the Texas Music Teachers' Association (2023). He served as President of the Texas Music Teachers Association, President of the Houston Tuesday Musical Club and Treasurer of the Houston Music Teachers Association.
Roy was a member of South Main Baptist Church and devoted many hours playing at its services and events. He was a beloved brother and uncle and spent his last years with his loyal dog Lucy by his side.
There will be a private graveside service in Henderson, Texas. In lieu of flowers if friends desire can make donations to a charity of their choice.
