Sharon Gerson Obituary

Sharon Gerson
07/27/1942 - 04/14/2025
Sharon Gerson passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the age of 82 with her devoted daughter by her side.
Sharon was born on July 27, 1942, in Houston, Texas to Libby and Mike Edelman, of blessed memory. She was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, but was living in Lufkin, Texas at that time. Sharon was born one year and one day after her late beloved sister, Janice Greenberg, was born. Due to their proximity in age, they always had conflicts of when to celebrate their birthdays. Sharon always loved and cherished her sister. Sharon went to Lufkin High School and graduated in a class of 300 students. She later joined Janice at University of Texas where they both were members of A E Phi. After 2 years at UT, Sharon went on to attend the University of Missouri.
Sharon later returned to Houston where she met her first husband, Lynn Levine. Their only child, Debbie Levine was later born and was the love of her life. Sharon always said that Debbie was an angel sent from heaven. They were inseparable and had a special bond that will live on forever. Later in life, Sharon married the late Ronny Gerson and was with him for 35 years until he passed away. She helped Ronny in his office supply business for a number of years.
Sharon then went on to work at Neiman Marcus for 22 years as a Top Producing sales person until she retired. She always loved fashion and her job gave her much satisfaction. After retiring from Neiman's, she dedicated herself to volunteer work at the Celebration Company as well as the Jewish Family Service where she made hospital visits and visited homebound seniors for support. After 5 years of dedication to these organizations, Sharon decided to further her bridge skills and played constantly, participating in tournaments and making many friends along the way. She always had a good sense of wit and humor, and will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and acceptance of all people.
Sharon was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2023 which came as a shock to everyone, especially her daughter who stood by her side and took care of her during her illness. She fought a brave and courageous battle until the very end. She never said "why me" and never ever gave up hope. Her strength and grace during this difficult time will never be forgotten.
Sharon is survived by her brother-in-law, Elliot Kerns and her daughter, Debbie Levine who will always cherish her and hold her in her heart forever.
We would like to thank Dr. Amir Jazaeri and his team at MD Anderson Cancer Center for their care and guidance as well as Dr. Albert Raizner for his kindness, support, and thoughtfulness during this difficult time. Donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center (www.mdanderson.org), the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (www.ocrahope.org) or the charity of your choice in her honor.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Ln.
May Sharon's memory live on forever. She will be greatly missed by all those who had the great fortune of knowing her.

I am so sorry Sharon has passed away and that I had too little time with her during the years I have known her. I know she would enjoy us all remembering what a wonderful chef she was, with the reputation in the Gerson family as the champion of Thanksgiving Turkeys. She was a beautiful and patient person, and I feel blessed to have known her. Debbie, she will be with you always.

I´m so sorry for your loss. I am praying for you all. Please know that your loved one is safe in God´s memory (Proverbs 14:14,15). Just as he brought his son Jesus back to life, he will do the same for your loved one. May God give you comfort and strength to help you cope during this difficult time.
