Stoddard Fredricks Obituary

Stoddard Dixon Fredricks
07/06/1945 - 02/18/2025
Despite being a most difficult person, people loved Todd Fredricks.
Stoddard Dixon Fredricks was born in Houston, Texas, on July 6, 1945. He was intellectual, Texas urbane, a staunch Democrat, known for his acerbic wit and sarcasm. Todd loved books, movies, TV, and music, and was an encyclopedia of trivia.
Todd went to Shimer College in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, attracted by their Great Books training in critical thinking. After college, he moved to New York City, where he was a social worker in Harlem. He quit after a year, disillusioned by the entrenched disempowering system. From NYC, Todd moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he piloted a water taxi. Once, he stopped to pull a log out of the water. The log turned over and the whale winked.
Todd was president of Tescorp Seismic Products, Inc., president/owner of VCable, and director of corporate communications at Input Output. He once advised Jim Goode, the BBQ magnate, not to open a restaurant as it would surely fail!
In 1987, Todd married Diana Facker Marks. They eventually returned to live in Todd's boyhood home in Memorial, in part to take care of his mother, Katharine.
He is survived by his wife Diana, sister Ginny, step-children Dan Marks (K.C.), Suzanne Wright (Derek), and Wendy Marks, seven grandchildren whom he loved dearly, five great-grandchildren, aunt Brandy Sieber, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Katharine (Sieber) Fredricks, brother-in-law Jim Wilson, sister-in-law Sharon Facker, and two younger brothers who died in infancy, John and Scott.

Todd was a unique friend. I alternated between wanting to hug him (most of the time) and slug him (very occasionally). In a word, I loved him and will miss him very much.
