Susan Whitehead
1961-2016
On July 13, 2016, Susan Whitehead passed away unexpectedly after emergency surgery at the age of 54. Susan was born on October 27, 1961 in Bloomington, IN and grew up in Houston, TX.
She had an endless number of friends growing up who have shared their memories of the neighborhood gang, the never ending block of cheese in the refrigerator, the trampoline, slumber parties, and the Shamrock Hilton.
Susan graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1979. She then studied interior design at the University of Texas where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
Susan had a natural beauty that shone from the inside out and was selected most beautiful her senior year at Lamar by Henry Winkler, aka the "Fonz".
Susan's sweet soul and light-filled smile was infectious with everyone she met. She brought her creative and innovative talents to everything she touched. She loved the beach, live music, being outside, cooking without a recipe, and creating shenanigans with her nieces and nephews and many other beloved children. Susan was a jokester at heart and known by her many nick names, including Su La Rue, SuzieQ, and Sweet Su.
She will be sorely missed by her family and the countless friends she leaves behind. We know our mother, Marjorie Ann Pattison Whitehead, has her loving arms wrapped around her in heaven.
Susan is survived by her father, James Berlyn Whitehead and sisters D'Ann Whitehead and her husband Jeff Zimmerman, Carol Whitehead, Karen Whitehead, and Rebecca Whitehead Munn, and her nieces and nephews, Stephanie Zimmerman Haycox and husband Chuck Haycox, Meg Alisa Zimmerman and soon to be husband Adam Spring, William Travis Whitehead and wife Karaline Wiedel, James Leslie Munn, and Charlotte Ellen Munn.
Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service in early August, in Austin, TX. Updates for Susan's service will be provided on Facebook.

I believe this is the Susan I met in the early 1990s living in San Diego. We both lived in a apt complex in Pacific Beach. She worked at one time at a gallery and was such a joy to hang out with and experience being in our 20s. I lost track with her in the late 1990s and remember she moved back to Texas. This photo is one of half dozen from hanging out with friends. Such a sweet gal; my condolences to her loved ones.

Sweet Susan! She was funny, beautiful, loving and filled with a quiet grace. I remember her cute little apartment that highlighted her creative interior design skills. It is hard to fathom not ever seeing her sweet smile again. May the beautiful memories of this loving woman sustain her family and friends. Miss Suzy Q!

I am so sorry for your loss. I just found out. She was a customer of mine for Juice Plus and the company just informed me. I am so very sorry. We had several wonderful conversations and she prayed for me to get a great job, which I got.

Susan was a Chi Omega with me at UT and I always called her "Head". She was fun and funny and very beautiful! I'll always remember her love of penguins and her large collection. I often rode with her to Houston to see my boyfriend who attended Rice. I was so blessed to know her and have thought of her often since our college days.

I am so sorry to learn of your loss. I cannot imagine the sadness in your hearts right now. Susan - who will always be Susie in my mind - is such a fixture in my childhood. Our father Bill loved them as he welcomed them to Houston , me, gaining five more sisters to our family.We loved the Whitehead family so much , we(he) gave them their first Houston dog Dee-Dee.Our Dad called Susan either Becky-Susie or Susie-Becky or actually both! Susie's beauty, also in spirit,blended well with a shenanigan smile and easy going manner. Now Marj, Beanie and Bill and Dee Dee continue the love.
