Thomas Huggett Obituary

Thomas J. (Tom) Huggett, Sr. 1940 – 2023. Thomas J. (Tom) Huggett, Sr. passed away on February 12, 2023, in Kingwood, Texas. He was born on April 9, 1940 in New Orleans, La. to parents William A. Huggett, Sr. and Gladys R. Borne Huggett. He was the middle son of three boys. He grew up in the Carrollton neighborhood and attended Incarnate Word elementary school. Tom then attended De La Salle High School in New Orleans. While still in school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and following graduation, received orders to report to Parris Island, S.C. for recruit training (boot camp). That became a special highlight in his life as he genuinely loved being a Marine! Two flags flew throughout his life on the front lawn of his home - the American flag and a Marine Corps flag. He served 8 yrs. in the USMC reserve, 5 yrs. active and 3 yrs. inactive. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in November 1965. Tom began working for Lykes Bros. Steamship Co. in New Orleans in 1959 in the Operations Division. He married his first wife, Betty F. Corvers in May 1960 and they had four sons. The boys were raised in Metairie, La. He left Lykes as an Operations Manager after a wonderful 35-year successful career as the company was about to move to Tampa, FL. He began working for the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission (Lake Pontchartrain Causeway) in 1994 as a Radar Operator/Bridgetender. After living together for over a decade, Tom married his inseparable companion and partner, Anita Garofalo Johnson in February 2000. They resided in Chalmette, La. until 2005 when he and Anita lost their home to floodwaters from hurricane Katrina. He retired from the Causeway in November 2005, and they moved to Kingwood, Texas in April 2006. Tom briefly worked as the Tool Dept. manager of Sears Appliance and Hardware store in Kingwood until retiring for good in 2007. Tom was predeceased by his parents, his older brother William A. (Bill) Huggett, Jr., and his son, Mark A. Huggett. Survivors include his loving wife Anita, three sons, Thomas J. (Tom) Huggett, Jr. (Eric) of Orlando, FL, Michael P. (Mike) Huggett (Brenda) of New Orleans, LA and Kevin C. Huggett of St. Rose, LA. His surviving grandchildren are Brandon Huggett of Metairie, LA, Ashley M. Huggett, Jenna C. Huggett and Logan C. Huggett, all of St. Rose, LA. He is also survived by his younger brother, Robert A. (Bob) Huggett of Bedford, TX. His surviving extended family are stepson Rene' E. Johnson (Martha) and step-grandchildren Christy Johnson Woodworth (Kyle), Kaitlin Johnson, Rene' W. Johnson, step-great grandchildren Tate V. and Cora J. Woodworth, all of Kingwood, TX. Tom requested no funeral, and instead his remains will be placed in his crypt in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens in Chalmette, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations to his favorite charity, St. Jude Hospital for Children, are preferred in order to help save the life of a child.

My condolences to all of Tommy´s,4 lovely boys and all the grandchildren. My condolences to the boys exceptional mother, and Tommy´s wife of so many years. Billy Tommy and Bobby were my cousins that I´ve visited many many times.
Tommy used to call for the round dancing and square dancing. He enjoyed a good time. Tommy´s father, William Huggett Senior was the hero of mine. The Huggett family came from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England.
I extend my condolences to all of the Huggett family.

We will miss Tom(or Uncle Tawm)as we known, and was truly one of the funniest folks I've ever met. Tom, Bobby, and Billy, his brothers, and my mother Jean Anne Borne(cousin) were the cutups in Carrollton, as well as Incarnate word. I will miss him.
