Thomas Rovello Obituary

Thomas Anthony Rovello
1942-2015
Thomas Anthony Rovello passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 28, 2015 following a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Dora Rovello, and his guide dog Newley. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Susan Gauthier Beard Rovello, daughter Gina Rovello Peterson, son Scott Rovello and wife Heidi, brother Charles Rovello, Jr., sister Debbie Rovello, sister-in-law Jeni Rovello, grandson Tyler Dean Peterson, and his guide dog Fritz. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and close friends.
Tom studied Food Distribution while attending Texas A & M University. Although he earned his BBA degree in Marketing, Economics and Business from University of Houston, he was a die hard Aggie all the way. Tom spent most of his career in grocery sales, marketing and management. He was President of a family owned business including Korner Pantry convenience stores, Rovello's Imported and Gourmet Foods Store, and Rovello's Supermarket. He also served as Regional Manager for Nestle USA and as a business consultant for STR Interests.
Tom was a devoted family man who never hesitated to do anything for those he loved. He deeply loved his children, investing his time with them from an early age. He was active with his daughter, Gina, in the Indian Princess program and was a Girl Scout leader. He coached his son, Scott, in baseball, basketball, and soccer; and they continued lively discussions about sports, especially the Aggies. He was a kind caregiver to his parents and was always present in the lives of his immediate family. Tom loved talking to people, and did every chance he got. He was politically active as Precinct Judge for 16 years and was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church.
Tom was legally blind, but never considered it a disability. His first guide dog, Newley, restored his independence and his second guide dog, Fritz, led him through the rest of his life. He was very active with Guide Dogs for the Blind and was a speaker for the organization.
Tom was an avid world traveler who was always ready to jump in a car, hop on a bus, take a train or board a plane with his dog and "go somewhere". Besides his deep love for Susan, Tom had a passion for trains. For many years, he was involved with model railroads. He shared his love of trains with Susan as they traveled together throughout Europe.
A memorial service will be held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road on Tuesday, December 29 at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow immediately in Bagby Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, Tom requested memorial contributions be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind (www.guidedogs.com) or your favorite charity.

I was fortunate enough to work with Tom while at Nestlé, he was truly an inspiration. He was always willing to share his guidance with those of us who were new to the company. He laughed, shared and encouraged those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be missed.

Many good moments to remember with Tommy from our high school & college years, but our road trip to Miami in his red & white Impala, to see our respective relatives, in 1961 is a true highlight as it included an impromptu side trip to the Bahamas. He indeed started his love of travel early and it was a pleasure to be a part of it.
I'm sure Tommy continues to travel and see all the greatness the Lord is now sharing with him.
