Tim Walker Obituary

Tim Walker
03/17/1962 - 07/04/2025
Tim Walker, a gifted artist and beloved family man, died unexpectedly on July 4, 2025, during the devastating floods in Texas. Born Roy T. Walker IV on St. Patrick’s Day in Austin, Texas, Tim was a lifelong builder, dreamer, and creator. As a self-taught neon artist, he turned a childhood fascination with light, electricity, and design into a brilliant career. On his 21st birthday, he founded The Neon Gallery in Houston, Texas—a custom studio known for its handcrafted neon and imaginative spirit. For over four decades, Tim worked side by side with his wife and creative partner Suzette, bringing color, joy, and light to clients and friends. Best known as “Grandude” to his beloved grandson, Tim was a patient man who could fix anything, a motocross rider with a generous spirit, a traveler, and a true adventurer at heart. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Suzette Walker; his daughter Bronwyn Walker; his son Stewart Walker; and his grandson Walker Beauchamp. He is also survived by his sisters Chula Sanchez and Gayle DeGeurin; his aunts Jeanne Stewart Adams and Priscilla Walker; and many extended family members and a wide circle of friends who felt like family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annette Stewart Dessart and Roy T. Walker III, and his brother, Robert Page Ross. A memorial service will be held on August 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Unity of Houston, 2929 Unity Dr, Houston, TX 77057, with a reception to follow at the church. Please feel free to dress casually—Tim never liked dressing up. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor his life, please consider a gift to the Hunt Volunteer Fire Department (www.huntvfd.org/donate), the Hill Country Arts Foundation (www.hcaf.com/), the Hunt United Methodist Church (www.huntumc.org), or Gear Up for Game Wardens (www.gearupforgamewardens.org).

I remember a long ago date with sweet Suzette and really thought she and her Mom were kind and welcoming. That was around 1980 and our paths did not cross much again.I always meant to stop by the Neon Gallery to pay them a visit. As news of the flood arrived I was very glad to see that Suzette and the family had survived.I am very sorry over the loss of Tim as he was obviously the Rock of your family. My condolences to both the Scott and Walker families.

Tim made the world´s best fried chicken livers! On his back porch in Hunt with a cold beer in his hand surrounded by friends, family and dogs under big skies smiling, shaking his paper sack full of fish fry and tending his fryer. That is my forever memory. Thank you Tim!

Friends since we met in jr high school. So many great memories.
Trips to his sister´s beach house at Surfside, motorcycles, BB gun wars, fun.
Worked together at the old J. Rich Sports store in the village.
He was the brother I never had.
It was a privilege to have known him.

Tim was one of the “helpers” in this world, always has been. Way back from Lamar High to his last brave acts, he put others first. A great guy and a good man, there was never anyone but Suzette for him. And his family they were everything.
For the things you taught us, and the love and friendship you showed us, Tim - thank you. And to his family - keep honoring him by living fearlessly and bravely, and holding each other close. Love and light , Walker family.

My deepest condolences to you and your family Suzette . Growing up I remember going with mom (housekeeper ) to her jobs. I always had a great experience at your home. Always so welcoming. I would vacuum and the rest of day play with kiddos .
When I think of MrTim, I remember him as nice, calm and sweet man . A family man who love his family and made "cool light stuff."
Sending prayers your way.

Tim made three pieces of beautiful neon art for me when he and Suzette were newlyweds. One was a heart with "Mom" in the center. It was for Sandy Coco Bath, Lisa´s mother, and it hung proudly in her kitchen at #6 Pinehill. (Where I ate most of my meals from age 16 on.) The other was in my childhood home for my own mother, Nona Mae Snow Fain. It was "Mymomma´s" with the "mom" inside the heart. (On a 45 degree) Both of those pieces of art made the two most important "moms" in my life the happiest women! For me he copied a family branding iron to exact proportions. The handle, shaft, and brand of "XF" which marked the left flank of our cattle. The "Ten Fains" brand, XF, was a bright red neon replica. Hanging from the ceiling it floated in space. One could drive down Willowick and see the glow of warm red colors throughout the kitchen on Olympia. The same on Pinehill and the same at my house. I thought of Suzette and Tim throughout my life...daily. Their warmth was all around me. I am devastated by the loss of Tim. At the same time, I am so very thankful for our surviving loved ones.

I was so upset when I saw that Tim had passed away. I was there when he started the Neon Gallery. He helped me through a very rough period in my life. He was a gentle soul. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I am sure that he and Mike and Robert are together and watching over all of you.

I am truly sorry for Suzette and the family. A super nice guy. He could do amazing work with vintage Neon repair. I enjoyed visiting with them when I was in the area dropping off or picking up signs. I considered him a friend, he will be missed.

What an incredible man! We worked together over the last 20 years on personal art and worked together on The Chocolate Bar and Candylicious! I always trusted his judgement and creativity. I´m at a loss. Tim will be missed but will be always remembered. My heart goes out to Suzette and the family during this time. Love you all.

I had the privilege of working at The Neon Gallery in the mid-80's, and in that time, I came to admire not only Tim's sharp mind and artistic talent, but also the warmth, kindness, and deep integrity that guided every decision he made. Tim had a way of bringing out the best in others-not through pressure or power, but through quiet encouragement, genuine interest, and unwavering belief in people´s potential. I'm heartbroken to hear about the loss of someone I truly admire. To the family, please accept my deepest condolences. Rest in peace, Tim, you were one of a kind, and you will never be forgotten.
