Tommy Dixon Obituary

TOMMY H. DIXON 76, of Livingston went to be with the Lord Monday August 20, 2007. Visitation will be held Thursday August 23, 2007 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Pace Funeral Home in Livingston. Please contact Pace Funeral Home for arrangements. Mr. Dixon was born December 28, 1930 in Houston to parents Olin W. and Laure Kennedy Dixon. He graduated from Reagan High School and attended Baylor University before joining the Marine Corps. He was employed at Browning-Ferris Machinery Co. for 20 years before retiring from South Texas Equipment Company in 1996. In his retirement years Tommy loved to go fishing and hunting, but his most favorite things to do were to play golf and take his naps. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, sister Lucille Havard and daughter in law Janet Dixon. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 54 years Jo Ann Dixon, sons Bobby Dixon and wife Nancy, Larry Dixon, Thomas Dixon and wife Jill and Richard Dixon, and daughter Barbara Brantner and husband Mark, and brother Olin Dixon Jr., and sister Mary Dixon. His 14 grandchildren survive him as well, Mark Dixon and wife Carrie, Danny Dixon and wife Tamesha, Michael Dixon, April Dixon, Lari Skelton and husband Jason, Jeffery Brantner and wife Tiffani, Christina James and husband Jesse, Tammy Dixon, Philip Dixon, Melissa Robinson and husband Jordan, Jimmy Brantner, Johnny Brantner, Amanda Dixon, Timmy Dixon, and 4 great grandchildren Grace Dixon, Katherine Dixon, Joshua Skelton, and Abigail Dixon. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Dixons grandsons Mark Dixon, Danny Dixon, Michael Dixon, Jeffery Brantner, Philip Dixon, Jimmy Brantner, Johnny Brantner and Timmy Dixon. In lieu of flowers the family has ask that you make a donation to the Denman Avenue Baptist Church building fund, 1807 East Denman, Lufkin Texas 75901. Please visit our web site www.pacefuneral.com

What can I say, except that I could not have made it through this last week without the support of our wonderful family. I think Jimmy and Melissa are right, there is a little bit of Paw Paw in each of them..so it's like he is still here with us. I am truly gratefful for all our friends who were there for us at this time and also kept this bunch fed. We thank you all.

PawPaw, what can I say he was definitely one of a kind. I remember when we were little, we loved going to mawmaw and pawpaw's house and especially at Christmas we stayed a whole week and he would always have his pennies ready for his m&m machine. I remember the one Christmas when he got up and started playing the piano. I had no idea he could even play. That just amazed me. Also, anytime we would get ready to leave his house he would get mawmaw to get his wallet so he could give us a dollar. We all thought that was the greatest. These are just a few memories there are so many more. I never met anyone that pawpaw couldnt make laugh. That's just what kind of person he was. He lived life to the fullest. We will all miss him but I know he is up in heaven having a blast and probably teaching everyone the crab dance :) Jimmy is right pawpaw was and is the foundation of this family and there is a little bit of him in all us. I am so blessed to have such an amazing family and to have known pawpaw as lomg as I did. He will live on in our hearts and memories forever!

I just wanted to say that I'm going to miss my "pawpaw". He is pretty much a big part of who I am today. I hope one day I can be at least just a little part of what a man he was. I remember when he used to take me and all my cousins out in the backyard to throw the football to us. I just remember always wanting to be around him because he always made everyone feel a little bit special. He is and always will be the rock and foundation of this family and will always be in my heart! One sweet day we will meet again pawpaw! I just wish I could have shared a little bit of my pawpaw to everyone in this world!

It was such a privilege to meet so many of the Dixon family. I worked with Bobby and Nancy and Mark and knew Barbara from the Post Office, and knew they were some of the finest people I had ever met. But as I met Mrs. Dixon, their mother and the other siblings and wives as well as all those wonderful grandchildren, I saw that the entire family was just outstanding, such a close and loving family. It was indeed a joy and pleasure to meet the rest of this family. My sincere thoughts are with you during the loss of your loved one, Mr. Dixon. I know the precious memories he gave you will continue to bring smiles and warmth to your life as you reflect on all the good times you had together. God bless each of you.

As a 1st cousin, I enjoyed all our wonderful times together when we were going up. My fondest memory was taking violin lessons together. If we had a good lesson Aunt Laura would take us all for a 5 cent ice cream cone which was a big treat. I will truly miss Tommy. Love to the family. I remember also going to church with the Dixons. I remember living two doors down from them until I was 11 yrs old. Barbara was my friend until we moved to the south side of Houston. I often think of the Dixon's and always wonder if any of them ever made it to West Texas. I am sorry to hear about Mr Dixon's passing and my prayers are with the family.

Some of my fondest memories growing up were going to softball games with Mr Dixon and my dad who was his catcher...also going dove hunting with them and Mr dixons dog Pete...ole pete never got the hang of it...i chuckle every time i think of it.

I can remember going to Church with the Dixon's and we sat on the same row. My dad and Mr. Dixon would put all of us kids between them and you didn't dare do anything because both of them had long arms and could reach over us kids head to whoever was acting up.

Many nights both sets of parents had to walk half sleeping kids to their cars after they had been playing cards and us kids went to sleep waiting for them to get through.

I have many fond memories of Mr. & Mrs. Dixon and the kids.

My thoughts and prayers are with ya'll and you can bet him and dad are playing golf or fishing right now and catching up on old times.
