Wanda Lenelle West, 92, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on the 21st of October. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Jean West, to whom she was married for 73 years; her sons Allen Dean West and Kenneth Jean West; her parents John and Eddie Bassett; her sister Della Cook; and her two brothers Glenn Bassett and Wayne Bassett. She is survived by her daughter Jeanelle Gunn and husband Dave; son Gregory Dale West and wife Jill; grandsons Bradley Gunn, James West and wife Alexis, Patrick West and wife Mary, Ian West, and Jasper West; great-grandchildren Justin Gunn and wife Catarina, Haley Gunn, Ruthie West, Sophie West, Vivienne West, Jack West, and Joey West; and brother Perry Bassett and wife Kathy. Special thanks to her wonderful caregivers Lynn Wooten, Shawn Caballero, and the staff at Brookdale Spring Shadows.Born in Thornton, Texas, her family moved to Houston where she attended Jeff Davis High School and was the editor of the school yearbook. She went on to become a certified professional secretary with an associate degree in business from Houston Community College. She worked for 25 years as an executive secretary at Exxon. A lifelong reader, she loved novels. She was passionate about classical music and was a season ticket holder of the Houston Symphony. She enjoyed trips to Round Top Music Festival to see classical performances there as well. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church for more than 60 years. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on November 15th at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 1101 Antoine Drive. In remembrance, donations may be made to the Houston Symphony or the Houston SPCA.
