Zachary Grafe Obituary

ZACHARY SEAN GRAFE, age 32, of Sugar Land, TX, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2007, after a courageous seven year battle against leukemia. Zack was born January 18, 1975, in LaGrange, TX, and grew up in Hallettsville, TX. He was a graduate of the University of Texas and a member of St. Laurence Catholic Parish. Zack was a teacher at Clements High School, and also coached girl's basketball and softball. Most importantly, Zack was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, who will be greatly missed by those who loved him, and by those whose lives he touched. He was a quiet, reserved man, who never complained throughout his struggle. He loved the kids he taught, and his family was his first priority. Zack is survived by his wife of eight years, Jill; daughters, Riley and Reagan; son, Zachary, Jr.; parents, Ronald and Sharon Mascheck, and Charles Grafe; brother, Nathan Grafe; sister, Candace Grafe; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. Visitation: Tuesday, January 1, 2008, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, with a Vigil Service beginning at 5:00 PM. Mass of the Resurrection: Wednesday, January 2, 2008, 11:00 AM, St. Laurence Catholic Church, with the Rev. Drew Wood, Celebrant. A reception will follow the service in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Zack Grafe Fund, c/o Sharon Shapiro, 4702 Round Rock Court, Sugar Land, TX 77479.

Hi Coach Grafe, Sorry to learn that you passed away. The last time I ran into you was in the blockbuster in Sugarland. You looked good at the time and we chatted briefly and I was glad to know that you were okay.

You were a great teacher and sorry that I was not an easy student. Thanks for the advise you gave me for college. It was the first time anyone actually spent time talking about this with me. I grew up to be a responsible adult. Thank you for what you taught me in Clements. History is not my favorite subjevt but I had fun in your class.

Coach Grafe was my history teacher in 2000. He was such a caring teacher. I will never forget how he brought our class bagels on the last day of school. He impacted so many people at CHS, and his strength through his tough times was such an inspiration to me. My prayers go out to his family and I hope that his children will always know what a wonderful man and teacher he was. May you rest with the Lord for eternity, Coach Grafe.

Jill- We are friends of Loretta Endres and want you to know that you will be fervently lifted in prayer during this unbelievably trying time. I recently heard a sermon that in Exodus (Chapter 25) God's purpose in building the Tabernacle so that HE COULD BE WITH US. 25 Chapters of the Bible are written describing the details of the Tabernacle. Only 1 Chapter is devoted to all of Creation. This to say that HE devoted time and detail to let us know HIS desire to be with His people. We pray that you will feel His very real presence and that it will lift you, in time, beyond the pain and to a place of peace that only He can give.
We admire your courage and your commitment to your husband and to your precious little ones. Our 3rd was born Nov 12th this year, so it hits home for me being a new mom to 3 with this new little guy. Bless you and your family.

1Thessalonias 1 verses 2-7
2 We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. 3 We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

You are not alone, we've prayed for you and your family everyday. May God bless you and yours always.
