Zahid Shaikh Obituary

Zahid Shaikh
01/01/1946 - 12/03/2024
Our family is heartbroken to share the tragic news that our beloved patriarch, Zahid Shaikh, passed away on Tuesday morning, December 3, 2024.
While he had been valiantly fighting bladder cancer for the past year, his loss on Tuesday morning was sudden and unexpected.
Zahid was an engineer by trade and an artist by passion. His sketches, drawings, and paintings grace the walls of many loving homes all over the world. He was a genius with words, a beautiful writer, the family comedian, and a burgeoning karaoke artist. His comic book collection is the stuff of legends, and his love of movies was equally iconic.
Everyone who knew him loved him. He was truly the best of the best - gentle, kind, funny, courageous, and strong. His heart was big and welcoming. He was a pillar of his family and a beacon in his community.
Zahid is survived by his wife, Anjum - the love of his life - who was his rock during good times and bad through 52 eventful years of marriage, most of which was spent together in Houston, Texas.
Zahid and Anjum shared everything with each other across continents, seasons, and life stages. He had deep admiration and respect for her, and he was inspired by her daily. Anjum is who he trusted most in this world. Anjum fell in love - and stayed in love - with Zahid's wit, strength, kindness, and sense of humor. She loved that he was a good man who did good things. Anjum will miss him deeply.
Zahid also was an amazing dad to his three lucky sons, Kamran, Kash, and Rick. He was always so supportive of their various journeys, ideas, and accomplishments, and he was quick to lend a helping hand and a listening ear. He was patient and fun and optimistic, and he shared his wisdom with calm and grace. He was a role model to his boys as both a teddy bear and a fighter and taught them by taking on challenges with a quiet confidence and heartfelt resolve. His contagious laugh made his sons (and anyone else in earshot or eyeshot) howl with happiness thousands of times over the years. He was the absolute best dad. They will miss him daily.
Zahid is also survived by his loving daughters-in-law, Myra, and Allison, who both felt quick connections to his warm heart. His grandchildren, Rayan, Camille, Dottie, and Zayn all loved him dearly.
Zahid's brother-in-law, Amir, and sister-in-law, Seema, were both central to his life, as were their children, Shayan, Faizan, and Guneez. He loved them all.
Zahid is survived by three loving older sisters - Rehana, Zarina, and Shaheena - and his loving older brother, Arif. His brother, Abid, who was also his childhood best friend, was waiting for him when he entered Heaven.
All Zahid's other friends and family were loved by him, and they all loved him very much.
So many people in so many places have so much love for Zahid. We all will miss him with all our hearts, and we will all remember his infectious spirit and perfect smile.
Zahid was laid to rest by his sons while surrounded by family and close friends at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Please keep Zahid - husband, father, brother, and more - and our family in your prayers. Indeed, we belong to God, and indeed, to Him we return.
