Michael "Mike" M. Vance, age 59, of Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning, August 31, 2011 at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center, Green Bay.

He was born on September 16, 1951 in Houston, Texas, son of William S. Vance Sr. and the late Lee (Mariman) Vance. Mike attended Southern Methodist University on a football scholarship and graduated from Texas Wesleyan College. After working at the School for the Deaf in Austin, he attended Southwest Texas University where he received a master's degree in clinical psychology. He moved to Manitowoc in 1989 and later opened Phoenix Behavior Services where he was part owner and therapist. On July 16, 2010 he married the former Darla Rusmisel in Manitowoc. Although he remained a transplanted Texan, Mike loved the small town atmosphere and people of Manitowoc. For Mike, the last two years of courtship and marriage to Darla filled him with love, laughter, and life.

Survivors include his beloved wife: Darla Vance; his father: William S. Vance, Sr.; two brothers and sisters-in-law: William S. and Donna Vance Jr.; David and Vivian Vance; one sister and brother-in-law: Kathryn and Gary Pennington; four step children that he claimed as his own: Leslie (Mike), Sean, Trevor and Carly; and one adored granddaughter: Shelby. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 1:30 PM. Cremation has occured at All-Care Cremation Center.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home and All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

He will be deeply missed by all those who love him.

So sad to hear of Mike's passing. He had an enormous impact on my young adult years as a friend and surrogate big brother. Sending much love to the Vance family.

So sorry to see that Mike passed away. I learned a lot about him not only by listening but by watching. The world will miss him.
