Jeffrey Lynn Dutton, 74, passed away on May 4, 2021, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Lynda Morgan Dutton, and his son, Brent Jeffrey Dutton. Additional survivors include his brothers, Lawrence "Larry" Dutton of Aguanga, CA, Grady Dutton of Mammoth Lakes, CA, Bruce "Walt" Dutton and Gregory Dutton, both of San Diego County, CA; and his sisters, Myla and Chrys Dutton, both of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Jefferson and Virginia Lund Dutton and an older brother, Edward Byron Dutton. Jeff was a great man. He was kind, generous, and loved his family dearly. He grew up in poverty and made himself the man he was. Jeff was born on September 29, 1946, in Elsinore, CA. He was the second of eight siblings and raised by a widowed mother. He joined the U.S. Air Force during the height of the Vietnam war. Luck was on his side when he was sent to Alaska instead of Vietnam. The Air Force saw he was not an ordinary airman and offered him the opportunity to finish his bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Arizona. There he met the love of his life, Lynda, in a chemistry lab class. After graduation, they married and began their life's journey. Jeff went on to get his master's degree in Operations Research at the Air Force Institute of Technology, and he retired after 22 years of service. He worked as a defense contractor until he decided to start his own company, Brightline Performance. Jeff was a longtime resident of Huntsville, AL, and a leading, contributing member of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Community. He served as a visiting scientist at the CMMI Institute and promoted a focus on performance. He enjoyed his work and helped many organizations across the U.S. improve their processes in order to achieve and sustain CMMI Maturity Levels. Jeff leaves behind his wife, Lynda, and son, Brent, who he loved dearly along with four fur babies: Beaux, Hamish, River, Dalton, and one angry parrot, Fred. A memorial service honoring Jeffrey L.
