Dr. Smackey was a professor of mine who became a friend and mentor. He provided lessons on life that I have carried with me since I met him 40 years ago. I am saddened to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to Ardie and the girls.

I was very saddened to hear of Bruce's passing. I always considered him to be a friend and a mentor during our many years on the Lehigh CBE faculty. During one three-year period, I was chair of the Department of Business - a tough spot for me since I was still an associate professor. Bruce always gave me sound advice and was one of the few senior faculty who were genuinely concerned for my mental health. I appreciated his friendship the most during this trying time. Rest easy my friend.

In addition to his many academic and professional achievements, Bruce was also a very good athlete. Even into his 60s, he continued to play summer softball with a faculty team (the Busters) at Lehigh University. As all of his teammates will agree, no one hit a ball farther than Bruce. He will be missed.

Dear Smackey, I am so sorry for your loss. Bruce and I worked together at Mack Trucks. I had lunch with him at least 3 days a week and always looked forward to it. He was a brilliant man and had a wonderful sense of humor. I know he will be missed by many. God bless.
