Charles Hughes Obituary

Charles (Charley) Edmund Hughes, 63, of Boise died March 23, 2008, at SunBridge Retirement home in Meridian. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Faith Community Bible Church in Boise.
Charley was born on Dec. 14, 1944, in Nampa to Charles and Gladys (Farr) Hughes. He moved to La Grande to attend school and play football at Eastern Oregon State College in 1963. Upon graduation Charley taught school in Meridian before moving back to La Grande to open up Charley's Sports, which he ran for 10 years. During that time he served as a coach in numerous youth sports throughout the community. After closing the store in 1988 Charley went back to teaching. Ultimately he taught in the Imbler school system for 16 years before retiring and moving to Boise.
Charley will be fondly remembered by many who were touched by his warm heart and contagious smile. He always had a kind word and a moment of his time for anyone that needed it.
Charley is survived by his brother Jim Hughes, his sisters Virginia Scheele and Betty Wells along with his children Jay Hughes and his wife Heather, his daughters Kelli Hughes, Kasey Hughes, Jenica and Rianna McKay and six grandchildren.

Daddy, u will forever be missed and fondly remembered. You were and are the best Dad a girl could ask for. I miss your smile but I know u are looking down upon me and smiling now. I will now strive to live more like you each and every day so that when people see me they in fact see a reflection of you. I am proud to be your daughter. Love U!

Students at Imbler High School lost a valued teacher, advocate, and friend with the passing of Charley. He always seemed to find those students who were in need of a positive word or a compassionate act. He was responsible for assisting countless students in not only meeting graduation requirements, but urging them to continually strive for their personal best. He was a tireless advocate for students and he will be missed.

We're sure that we speak for many who counted Charley as a great friend and trusted colleague. He was quick with a smile and students and staff members were always amazed with his patience and dedication to doing what was best for kids.

Our thoughts are with his family as they work through this difficult time.

Charley's family. 3-28-2008
We have many wonderful memories of Charley and his teaching, the sporting goods store, and his many coaching endeavors. We particularly enjoyed his sense of humor and willingness to help anyone at anytime. He will be missed greatly. However the memories for those lives he touched will last forever.
