Boise - Daniel "Dan" Morris Brown passed away April 25, 2024, at St. Alphonsus Hospital, surrounded by family. He will be missed.
Dan was born December 12, 1953, in Nampa, to Lloyd and Florence (Stover) Brown. At the age of 3 the family moved from Nampa to their 80-acre farm north of Council. His father ranched for many years and later worked at the sawmill. His mother took care of the family and was a part time hairdresser. He graduated from Council High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
Dan spent 40 years working for United Water of Boise. He was well respected there. While working there he obtained his master's degree in engineering. His last project was overseeing a large water tank in north Boise. He was immensely proud of that project. He would tell countless stories of the fun he had there. After retirement, the side effects of his earlier chemo treatments began to appear, and his health began to decline.
Dan loved the outdoors. In his teens, he joined his best friend, Dale Fisk on many adventures. They put together a small band that Dan played the bass guitar. Dan enjoyed hunting, golf, traveling, and silhouette shooting which he held a record in. Dan had a passion for fast cars never left. He bought his first sports car, a Porsche, in 1979 and his beloved Camaro SS, in 1998. He relished the custom license plate he had made for the car, which simply said, "ADIEU". On his 60th birthday, he was gifted with a chance to drive on a racetrack in Las Vegas, it was a gift of a lifetime. He loved taking trips that included tight turns so he could show off the "cornering" ability of his cars. A favorite memory of his was his competition with Randall Fisk, to see who could drive home from Council to Nampa and get there first. Unfortunately, on one of those late-night trips to the valley he was clocked at driving over 120 mph. That was "after" he had put on his brakes to slow down. He would often visit the Porsche dealership and dream of his next car.
Dan never knew a stranger and loved talking with anyone and everyone. He has a story for every situation. He loved going to his favorite restaurant, The Cracker Barrel, because everyone treated him like family, as he did them.
In 1978, Dan married Debbie Fisk. In 1980, they welcomed their daughter Annie, who he loved dearly. Their marriage ended in divorce, but a friendship remained.
In 2002 Dan married Karen and happily welcomed her two children Casey and Calise into his life. Dan and Karen spent time with family and friends and enjoyed golfing and taking many trips. On their honeymoon in Hawaii, they learned he had cancer. After many treatments he was considered "cancer free." He spent many years doing the things they loved till he became ill again.
Dan's faith and acceptance of his Lord and Savior, allows those he left behind with great peace. He is now joined with those who have gone before.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, his daughter Annie (Aaron) Garner. Brothers Steven (Jeannie) Brown of Thermopolis, WY, Thomas (Erin) Brown, Boise. Sister Emily (Robert) Miller of Caldwell. Stepson Casey Cardenas, Boise, stepdaughter of Calise Cardenas, San Francisco. Grandchildren Amelia, Ace, Axel Garner and step-grandchildren Julian, Piper, and Esmae Cardenas. Plus, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday May 3 at 11:30am at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel in Nampa. There will be a viewing at 10:00. Burial will follow at Cloverdale Cemetery in Boise.
