Dominic Alessio Iaderosa
July 29, 1936 - February 5, 2021
Dominic Alessio Iaderosa passed away February 5, 2021 at the age of 84. He will be missed by those who loved him his wife, Jody Poulton Iaderosa: his three daughters, Becky (Jim) Iaderosa-Lindsay of Clearfield, Utah, Christine Iaderosa (Vincent Desroches) of Kalamazoo, MI and New York City; their children Pacifique "Pax" and Galileo "Max"; Cate Iaderosa and her children Gabrielle Blakeway-Wood (Ben Wood) and Vienna Blakeway; his brother, Vincent (Mary Lou) Iaderosa of Bradford, PA; his nieces Debbie Vecellio, Sue Iaderosa, and Ann Wolfe, as well as his nephew Carmen DeStevens; his sister-in-law Jeanne Poulton Coles, and her daughter Josephine Fullerton Coles, New Plymouth, New Zealand; and his dog, Barney.
Dominic was preceded in death by his parents: Dominic Iaderosa Sr. and Bella Pantuso Iaderosa, his sister and brother-in-law: Magdalene "Maggie" (Merritt "Smokey") DeStevens; and nephews: Johnny Iaderosa and Dominic DeStevens; as well as, countless generations of basset hounds descended from his first set: Josephine and Napoleon.
Dominic was born July 29, 1936 in Bradford, PA, where he was a barber in his father's shop until the new Bradford YWCA youth director, a girl from Idaho, lured him away. He married that girl, and moved to Parma, Idaho in 1960. He earned a B.A. and M. A. at the College of Idaho and learned to be an orchardist and farmer for his father in-law, Raymond Poulton. He loved performing, acting in community theater, mostly with CAN-ACT, and college theater. Dom had a beautiful, well-trained baritone voice, and was a member and soloist of many Treasure Valley organizations including Boise Master Chorale, Treasure Valley Community Choir in Ontario, OR, and the College of Idaho choir. Possibly hundreds of weddings and funerals were graced by his music.
Dominic taught History and Civics at Parma High School for 17 years. He was a scholar of U.S. History and the constitution; he loved the constitution, and his students. He started the American Field Service (AFS) student exchange program in Idaho, organizing numerous talent shows to raise funds for students from other countries to come experience Idaho for an academic year. He developed the first Community School in the state, a wonderful idea until federal funds ran out. The next 21 years he served as principal of the Parma Jr. High, which he and many dedicated teachers developed into Idaho's first Middle School.
After retirement he worked at a number of small jobs, including court bailiff, bank clerk, and Micron shipper before making use of his considerable education skills as a BSU student teacher supervisor for ten years.
Always a devout Catholic, he sang in the local KMCC Presbyterian Church choir for 52 years, often slipping out the back after the choir had sung to attend mass at the Catholic Church. He was a member and president of the Parma Lion's Club, loved being on the men's cooking committee for Lion's Club lunches and the monthly men's group breakfasts at KMCC. Many members of the community will remember his meatballs and chili. Dominic brought dignity, humor and grace to all activities in which he took part.
The family deeply appreciates the care given by local hospitals, Canyon Home Health Care and Heart & Home- Hospice. Our dear friends in the community, Parma Lions, KMCC, and former teachers and students are so loved and appreciated by the family. Thanks to all of you.
Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery, Bradford, PA, when the conditions created by the pandemic allows. In addition, there will be a celebration of life event sometime in the summer, possibly on his birthday, when the family hopes we can all gather and share memories of this wonderful, amazing man who positively touched the lives of so many.
