Dorothy Raney Obituary

Nampa - Dorothy (McCrumb) Raney, formerly from Nampa and Caldwell, passed away in Garden City, Idaho, on October 16, 2025, after 93 years of an extraordinary life. She was born on June 14, 1932, near Midvale, Idaho, to Milford and Audra (Seid) McCrumb. She was an only child and grew up on the farm outside of town, calling herself a "country girl." She graduated from Midvale High School in 1950 and moved to Nampa to attend Nampa Business College.

Dorothy had known Frank Raney from the grocery store where he worked in Cambridge, Idaho, so they were both from "the upper country." Coincidentally, he also began studying at the Nampa Business College in 1950, and they began hanging out with the same group of friends.

After graduating from business college in 1951, Dorothy worked at Prudential Insurance in Boise.

On February 6, 1955, Frank called Dorothy and said some of his friends had invited him to go dancing, and he asked her to go with him. She did, and later found out it was his birthday. The romance immediately blossomed, and they were married that May. They lived in Caldwell, even though she continued to work in Boise, until the summer of 1956, when she left her job to start a family.

Frank and Dorothy raised Randy, Cindi and Gary in Caldwell. Frank enjoyed a long career working for Simplot. Dorothy stayed home, but kept busy with kids in band, scouts and other activities. She was a wonderful mother, teaching the children life skills and independence. Community service was important to her; she was a decades-long member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and an active leader in the Silver Sage Girl Scout Council. Frank and Dorothy later moved to Nampa, where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially when traveling in their RV.

Frank passed away at age 80 in 2006, and Cindi passed from cancer in 2015, which was especially hard on Dorothy. Dorothy is survived by her sons Randy (Sue) Raney of Nampa and Gary (Angela) Raney of Garden City. She also leaves her grandchildren, Justin, Joey and Kaitlyn and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside celebration of life will be held at the New Meadows Cemetery on June 14, 2026.
