Esther R. Lesser, 97 of Caldwell, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 25th at Grace Lutheran Church, Caldwell under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Condolences may be shared at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
Esther was born on a homestead in eastern Colorado near Keota on September 12, 1918 to John and Anna (Wolfe) Brunmeier. She was born on her Grandmother Wolfe's birthday. Esther attended a country school where all 8 grades were in one room and her teacher, Anna Wolfe, was also her aunt. Esther's family moved to a farm in Greeley, Colorado, then to Loveland, Colorado in 1940. There she met Jake Lesser, who lived a block away from her. They were married on June 29, 1941 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they lived for 43 years. Jake worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years before he retired in 1976. Over the years, Esther and Jake spent many days fly fishing together in the Snowy Range Mountains west of Laramie, Wyoming.
In 1984 they moved to Caldwell to be near Esther's family and also became members of Grace Lutheran Church. Jake passed away in March of 1999.
Esther enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting and china painting. She was a beloved member of Grace Lutheran's Quilters and Southwestern Idaho China Painters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake Lesser; 3 brothers, Bob, Ted, and Harold Brunmeier; and 2 sisters, Helen Witzig and Elsie Baker.
Esther is survived by 2 brothers, Roy Brunmeier of Payette and Sonny Brunmeier; and 2 sisters, Rose Smallwood and Anna Anderson, both of Caldwell.
