Jack Kozup Obituary
Meridian - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jack Kozup on March 18, 2024, surrounded by family at his home in Meridian, Idaho. Jack's legacy will be remembered and imprinted on our hearts and minds of those he touched. His family and friends are at peace knowing that he is with Jesus, as 2 Corinthians 5:8 states, "We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord."
Born July 26,1941, in Detroit, Michigan, growing up with his sister Nancy Hattey, where they attended high school and where he met his bride, Christine. After finishing high school, he completed trade school where he learned tool & die and precision metalworking.
Jack and Christine were married in 1965. Together, they brought two wonderful children into the world, Lori and Mike.
Jack took great pride in his work as a professional tool & die machinist working for manufacturing companies including Lockheed Martin in California and later transferred to Hewlett-Packard in Boise, Idaho in the late 1970's. Working at Hewlett-Packard was a rewarding experience for him which also brought him many dear friends that he continued to stay in touch with following his retirement at the age of 59.
Jack enjoyed many hobbies. One of his favorite hobbies was cooking. He was known in his family for preparing his famous spaghetti and meatballs, Coney Island hotdogs, and cheesecake, which was received with big smiles among the children and grandchildren. In his downtime, he enjoyed reading mystery novels and biographies from the Meridian Library, as well as watching pro football with Christine. His favorite team was the Detroit Lions.
Listening to jazz music and reminiscing of times when he performed as a drummer in a band were wonderful memories for him. He also enjoyed dancing, especially the samba and tango.
One of his favorite pastimes was traveling to Cactus Pete's Casino with Christine to play the blackjack tables. Regardless of a big payout or not, he enjoyed the art of the game, nonetheless.
As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping and fishing at Lake Cascade and Lucky Peak Reservoir. He always brought good company along on his boat that included his children, grandchildren, and friends. What he delighted in most was spending time with the grandchildren, which included attending school events and games.
He also enjoyed working on the two-acre property he purchased in Meridian where he learned to raise farm animals including cattle, horses, chickens, geese, and llamas which alone came with so many humorous stories of their own.
In typical Jack fashion, he was guaranteed to make you laugh because he was never short of jokes and stories to share, which made everyone enjoy themselves while spending time with him.
He leaves behind his lovely bride of 59 years, Christine, daughter Lori Edwards (Corey), son Mike Kozup (Heather), grandchildren: Nick, Lauren, AJ, Kathryn and Luke. His sister, Nancy Hattey, and her children, Tino, Kelly and Paige.
Jack will remain forever in our hearts with much love.
