Jerry Knox Obituary

8-16-1941 to 2-13-2011

Jerry Garland Knox was born Aug. 16, 1941, in Turlock, Calif. being the oldest of two sons of Buster & 'Betty' (Thompson) Knox. He died at Saint Alphonsus, Nampa on Feb. 13, 2011, with his entire family by his side. He went on a wonderful trip that day to begin his life with Jesus Christ our Lord.
Jerry went into the U.S. Navy in 1959-1966, just after graduating H. S. He served upon the Ammunition Ship the USS Rainier AE-5, traveling all over the Pacific on a five month Naval tour. He loved his time in the service for his country.
Before Jerry even graduated High School, he had fallen in love with Alene (Smith) Knox and they had a happy Christian marriage for almost 49 years, marrying in June 1962 in their hometown of Turlock, in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. There, they settled into raising their two daughters, Donna (Darlin' Doo) & Cheryl (Lil Pee Wee), who were the apples of his eyes, still to his final day on earth, constantly filling Jerry with much love and happiness.
Jerry worked his entire working years for various Plumbing Wholesale businesses, first all over central California, and moved to Idaho the first time in 1979, and returning in 1997. He first retired in 2004 and moved closer to his family in the Boise/Nampa area. In his younger days he loved to fish, mountain hike, go on short trips, BBQs, keeping his yard, etc. And he loved his church of Lutheran Brethren of Nampa, being an active member.
Jerry is survived by his wife Alene Knox; 2 daughters Donna (Ralone) Makovsky and Cheryl Knox. He had 4 living grandchildren, Matthew Makovsky (Brandon); Mark (Lacy) Makovsky by Donna and Ralone. Natalie Makovsky; 'Mac' (Jessica) Makovsky; and one deceased granddaughter, Brandy Makovsky who died in 1984, by Cheryl. Jerry is also survived by his 3 great-grandchildren: Brianna, Luke and Levi. He had one special brother-in-law, Jerry Smith (& wife Kathy) of Modesto, Calif. that he was especially close to. His parents and brother all preceded him in death. Jerry was a quiet, gentle and good man with strong Christian values that is truly loved and he will greatly be missed.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, 10 a.m. on Feb. 16, 2011, at the State of Idaho Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Pastor Harold Tjelta of Lutheran Brethren, Nampa will lead the celebration of Jerry's life and new beginning in heaven. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. An online guest book may be signed at www.nampafuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Seminary Fund at Lutheran Brethren Church in Nampa, 730 W. Roosevelt, Nampa ID 83651 or to your favorite Christian charity so that the Gospel of the Lord may be spread to as many as will hear.

To the family of Jerry Knox,
It was with great sorrow that I heard of Jerry's passing. I wish to extend to all your family my heartfelt sympathy. I always remembered
the fun we had in high school and his quiet and shy qualities but with
the cutest smile. We always wished he would join us at one of our last reunions. May all of you be consoled by the good memories you shared. Again our sincere sympathy on your loss.
With hugs, and Prayers,
Mary "Gomes" Sai (and Ed)

Alene, Cheryl & Donna, our hearts and prayers are with you with his passing. What a beautiful summation of Jerry's life. My favorite is that 'he had fallen in love with you A before graduation, and how happy Donna and Cheryl made him.' This really touched my heart. I'm constantly thinking of you 3. I love you, we all 4 do. I do believe Jerry is dancing in heaven with his Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.
