John Dodge Obituary

John Ruben Dodge, 64, of Nampa, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2009, in Nampa, Idaho. John was born May 20, 1944, in Nampa, the son of Wilford Walter Dodge and Julia Humphreys Dodge, the youngest of 13 children. He was raised and educated in Nampa and was drafted by the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was later honorably discharged in November 1965.
John married Sandra E. Moehlman on July 6, 1968, in Elko, Nev. During this union, John raised two sons, Christopher and Steven. John was a very devoted father and very proud of his sons; he never missed any type of sport or event that his sons participated in while growing up.
John and Sandra enjoyed spending many special times together from camping, treasure hunting, antiquing, and they really got a kick out of running around to different yard sales. John always had a tale to tell, and he was an amazing storyteller, no matter how he retold it. John took great pleasure attending all his family gatherings and reunions with his brothers and sisters; they were an important part of his life.
John had a great love for the outdoors, taking great pride in his hunting and fishing accomplishments. He was one of the founding members of the Nampa Bow Chiefs and was one of the top 10 bow shooters in Idaho. He was named bow hunter of the year in 1984. John was also a member of the Idaho Bass Masters. In 1990, his team qualified as one of the top 20 earning them a spot in the Tri-State bass tournament in Coulee, Wash.
He worked for Hehr Manufacturing for 29 years, retiring as a production manager in 1992; he later worked for the Nampa School District from 1994 until his retirement in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Dodge of Nampa; two sons, Christopher and daughter in-law Cheri of Caldwell, and Steven of Spokane, Wash.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Kay Downing of Weiser, Ida Barrett of Seattle, WA, Arlene and Max Beswick of Creswell, OR, Beverly and Alan Lawrence of Nampa; two brothers, Lloyd and Robin Dodge of Nampa, and Wayne Dodge and Wanda Crandall of Nampa.
He was preceded by his parents and six siblings, Ruth, Keith, Leo, Richard, Marlin and June.
A visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. tonight, March 24, at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel. A graveside service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, 6th St. N., Nampa. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. S. Nampa, ID 83651, 466-3545.
