John "Jack" Finley

1928 - 2026

Parma - Dad asked an employee of Autumn Wind Assisted Living to write down the following obituary as he told it to her. We are grateful for her help.

"I was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 10, 1928. The folks and I moved to Whittier, California at the end of the 30s. We moved to Parma, Idaho in the late 40s. I attended a lot of different grade schools along the way.

I met Ruby Smith and asked her to marry me. 'She's my Ruby, my rock." We started farming until later when I got drafted to the Army. I went to Korea. I wasn't the best soldier, but I was a soldier. I got a Purple Heart and got out of the Army in the 50s.

We have two children, Joe and Nancy. I farmed a little. (I wasn't that good of a farmer.) In the 70s, I went to driving trucks until the company I drove for went broke in the late 70s. I went back to farming on the side and bought my own truck. I fed cattle and trucked some more in the 80s. We started with one truck and trailer, growing Finley Tank Trucking Company into 12 semi-tractors and 18 trailers when we sold the company in the 90s and retired. I bought a Delorean car in the early 2000s, and it's in a car show in Laughlin, Nevada.

We came to live at Autumn Wind in the middle of 2023. Autumn Wind gave us a wonderful 77-year wedding anniversary in August of last year."

Jack is survived by his wife, Ruby, and children, Joe (Kathy) Finley and Nancy (Jim) Hall, along with their families.
