Leona Grasteit Obituary

Leona M. Grasteit
10/17/1921 - 8/16/2015
Leona Maire Grasteit was born on 10/17/1921 in Eagle, Idaho, to Swiss emigrants Otto & Marie Odermott. On Sunday 8/16/2015, she got her wings as she peacefully passed away at home with family by her side.
She attended Meridian School until 8th grade. She met & married Ivan M. Cunningham, together they had one son Otto Ivan (Jack). They later divorced. She met and married John DeGroot; they had one son, Thomas John. They later divorced. She married George Atkins; they also divorced. She then met & married Nephi C. Grasteit; he had 3 daughters all of whom she loved as her own girls.
She worked along side Nephi in his commercial fishing business for over 40 years, making homes in various places throughout the year as the seasons changed including Ephrata, Washington; Lakeport, California; New Town, North Dakota; & Helena, Montana. She made a home no matter where she lived, making friends with everyone she met. She loved taking care of her family. Her favorite past time was hand writing cards & letters to all of the people she met in her travels. Once she knew you, she kept in touch for life.
More memories can be found & shared at www.alsipfuneralchapel.com.
There will be a memorial service held for all who wish to attend in Helena, Montana, on her birthday October 17. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to your favorite animal charity, as she always loved her pets.
