I knew Mark from detectives. I was a Concord financial crimes detective and he was at Antioch. We shared many cases together. I was happy to reconnect with him and catch up when he went to Pittsburg. Mark always had a smile on his face. I am sad to hear of his passing.

I was driving down an Antioch street, and I heard a voice say Diana slow down. There was Mark on duty sitting incognito looking for speeders. I'll miss you Mark.

Mark was very kind to me as a new cop in Antioch in 2000, I met him on the softball field and he had such a great way about him. Whenever I saw him afterward it was like I had just talked to him. RIP Mark.

My deepest condolences to the Mays family, I believe we all feel the same about Mark, he was probably one of the nicest man I ever have met always the same every time I ran into him. All should have just some of that kindness that he so greatly expressed when he would see someone he know, we may all be in a better place in life. MY God comfort his children wife and all who knew and loved him. May he Rest In Eternal Peace.

Dear Donna & Family: Dak & I send our Love & Support to all of You!!! It hard to think that Mark will not be here to be "Honorary Mayor of Pittsburg" This picture was taken at The Pittsburg Sea Food Festival. All he had to do was show up & be there....smile & share laughs with everybody that came up to him! Law & Order at it's Finest! He was a man of great principles, respect and love for his Community. He was also a great neighbor on El Dorado St., where we enjoyed a true neighborhood full of kids and fun. We were both involved in school activities: we were the only 2 kids that ran the Annual Book Sales @ Highlands Elementary (a bit nerdy?) On to to High School, where we then were assigned to be Recreation Leaders for the City of Pittsburg at HIGHLANDS ELEMENTARY?! Mark was always the patient leader for the kids & staff, qualities he carried throughout Life! Little did we know, we would both end up with Law Enforcement Careers. Our careers crossed in Sacramento, when he was riding his motorcycle for the Motorcade for Fallen Officers, where I was working at for the Agency that supported this event. So many great parallels in our lives & neighborhood. Rest in Peace My Good Friend! Cindy Quintana & Dak Markham

My most fond memories of Mark we´re camping with he, Donna, his family and friends. I was one of his abalone diving buddies. I have known Mark for 30 years and will say he was one of the most grounded, solid, caring, honorable, steadfast man I´ve ever known. He was one of the GOOD ONE´S! I think about him often and will miss our times together.

The May's moved to El Dorado Dr.when I was around 7. When I first heard that there name was Mays. Being a Giants fan, I couldn't' wait to ask if they were related to Willie Mays. I lived right across the street from them. Our neighborhood was full of kids our age and between baseball and football we played every day. We both attended Highlands elementary school. When Mark was in 4th grade he was Sargent at arms and me being in 5th was Vice President. His mom Francis was hall and recess monitor and kept everyone in check. Mark was one of the kindest people I've ever met. I'll miss him.

Dear Donna, Megan and Ryan,
Roger and I had heard that Mark passed away. We are deeply sad for your loss.
We will always ,always remember him. Roger grew up with Mark back when there were neighborhood block parties, Abalone feeds and countless camping, fishing and hunting trips. We went with Mark and Luanne Eckstrom to the class of 76 Senior Ball. Once, Mark pulled me over just for the giggles. He and his family were such important people in our lives. For Roger growing up, and for me as a young wife and mother. To this day there are certain Italian words I use thanks to Mark and his family. Please know that no matter the years we will always remember Mark with fondness.
God Bless you all,
Roger and Teresa Poindexter

What a beautiful tribute! Mark was always upbeat and thoughtful. We enjoyed dinner and the occasional activity with him and Donna. Even in the last few months, his attitude was hopeful and positive. We can all learn from that! We love you both!-Todd & Julie

Right after Mark and Donna were married they rode his motorcycle to our camp site outside of Yosemite National Park. We took them to the park and had a great visit.
I am his Aunt by marriage. I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Donna. I know how you feel. Love you Aunt Jeffie.

It is with great sadness that I write this note after learning of Marks passing. I have not seen Mark for 30 years. The last time our paths crossed was in the 90's when Mark, who was an investigator with the Antioch police department, had stopped in at the Clayton police department, where I was the chief, searching for leads on a case he was investigating. After exchanging case information with one of our officers, Mark and I had a chance to visit and reminisce about growing up in Pittsburg and choosing the same career paths. It was truly an enjoyable half hour that I have always remembered with fondness. Years later my wife and I would move to Northern Idaho and I would learn that Mark had moved to Southern Idaho. I will always regret that our paths did not cross once again in Idaho. He was a good man and a stellar peace officer.
Blessed are the peace-makers, for they will be called children of God

"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come With Me." With tearful eyes we watched you, slowly fade away, Although we loved you dearly, we would not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."
