Michael Dick Obituary

Michael Kaye "Mike" Dick
May 21, 1958 - April 18, 2012
Michael Kaye "Mike" Dick, 53, of Meridian, passed away after a courageous 4-year battle with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in Meridian, Idaho.
Mike was born in Boise, Idaho on May 21, 1958 to Kaye G. and Jo Anne Berry Dick. He was the eldest of seven children.
He spent his growing up years in Boise. He spent many summers at the family cabin on Payette Lake in McCall. It was there that he learned how to waterski, jet ski, and snowmobile. He acquired his strong work ethic by working weekends at his family's business, Glenn Dick Equipment Co., and on their farms in Murphy, Idaho and Winnemucca, Nevada. At the time, he didn't appreciate the time put into working the long hours, but it showed years later as he received Employee of the Year numerous times during his work career.
Mike graduated from Capital High School in 1977. He married the love of his life, Tia Candler, in 1982. They had 2 wonderful boys that were the highlight of his life. In 1986 he spent a few months in Venezuela with his Dad and brother overseeing a gold mining operation. In 1987 he moved his family to Reno, NV to begin his career with Cable One. In 1991 he had the opportunity to transfer to Stockton, CA to learn how to splice fiber optics. They spent 9 years in California working hard and raising their sons but always yearning to be back in Boise. In 2000 he once again had the opportunity to transfer and it was back to his roots in Boise. For the past 12 years, Mike has continued working hard for Cable One. There wasn't ever a job that Mike couldn't do. He was nicknamed "McGuyver" because he had incredible skills to fix most anything and also great determination. He absolutely loved his family, friends and the great outdoors. He spent his spare time camping, bird and elk hunting, fishing, jet skiing and dirt bike riding. Always ready for an adventure. In fact, he was camping and working full time just 5 days prior to passing.
Mike is survived by his wife, Tia; two sons, Cameron and Adam, daughter-in-laws, Ashlee and Tasha; grandson, Spencer, and Tyler (expected in September); his parents, Kaye G. and JoAnne Dick; his two sisters, Stephanie Searle (Delynn) and children, Justine, Kendra, Taylor, and Kimberlee, Catherine Bridges and son Alec; his two brothers, Brian (Jeannie) and children Alex and Hailey, and brother, Kelley. He is also survived by nieces, Lacey and Tianna Nutting, Nichole Candler-Koberlein; nephews, Ryan Koberlein, Michael Candler, and Robert Candler.
Mike was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leo and Norma Berry, paternal grandparents, Glenn and Sadie Dick, and brothers, Gregory and Paul Dick.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Road in Boise. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 534 W. Iowa Ave. in Nampa, Idaho. Interment will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery, 9600 Hill Road in Boise.
The family would like to say a special "Thank you" to Dr. Dan Zuckerman and Marybeth from MSTI for all of the compassionate care they provide. They would also like to say "Thank you" to the wonderful, caring folks at Harrison's Hope Hospice.

Mike and I were friends during our years together at Capital Senior High School. We had our "typing" class (now called "keyboarding") with Mr. Fransen, just after the mid-morning break. Mike was always a nice guy (at least to me). He was usually quick to leave after lunch to go help out at the Family (Equipment) business. We lost touch after finishing school. I wish we could have had a chance to talk with each other before his passing. I am glad I found this remembrance to learn of Mike's life after our time together as teenagers. *I am finally posting "comments" on friend's pages, which I should have done years ago. RIP my friend.

I was saddened to just learn of Mike's passing. Even though I had only known Mike for several years, I truly enjoyed seeing and talking with him every time I come into town. I had the opportunity to have dinner with Mike six weeks ago, and it was at that time I learned that he had cancer. I was amazed at his continued good nature and smile and we had a good chat. I will miss seeing him whenever I go back to Nampa. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Our family lived just a few houses down but we are in the process of moving and although we never got a chance to talk with him more then a wave as we drove by or a hello when we would go for walks with our kids, we always thought "what a neat man and nice family they are". We just found out yesterday of his passing and were shocked and sad. Your entire family will be in our thoughts and prayers and we just wanted you to know that we always thought you were the nicest family... your kids would wave as we drove by and we always would say to each other... "they sure did a good job of raising their family, we hope ours will be like that to someday".

I am so sorry that I won't be able to participate in the celebration of Mikes life. The thing I will miss most is his laugh, and the joy he got from everyday events. I don't know why, but the one thing that always sticks in my mind happened when we were all around 10-13 years old. We were at the house on Pauley when Mike came home after just getting his hair "feathered". I remember we were all standing around him at the top of the stairs looking at him like he was the coolest guy in the world. Only to realize years later, that he actually was.
