Oren Campbell Obituary
Oren was publisher/editorial adviser of the Daily student newspaper at the University of Washington, what he regarded as "the best job in journalism because I had the opportunity to work with hundreds of outstanding young women and men." He was honored in 2005 for lifetime achievement by the Western Washington Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). He was an SPJ member for more than 70 years and served as a chapter president and national board member. Oren edited daily newspapers in Nampa, ID, Bremerton, Walla Walla and Rockford, IL and owned a small Oregon newspaper.
Survivors include his wife Gay of Camano Island, daughter Dawn Boyden (John) of Coupeville, grandsons Jeff (Courtney Liu) of Tacoma and Dan (Jeanette Dolmetsch) of Stanwood, and sister Carol Conner of Gladstone, MO. He was preceded in death by his son Drew and his stepbrother, Preston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests making a donation in Oren's name to The Daily at UW.
