Susan Dethman Obituary

Eagle - Suzi Johnson Dethman

Our beloved mother, Suzi Johnson Dethman, crossed over this October to begin her next journey in the afterworld.

In this life, Suzi was a creative force as an artist, a bonsai sensei, and a kind and gentle soul. In her younger years, she was crowned Boise State University Homecoming Queen of 1968 and served as an adjunct professor of watercolor painting at the college. Suzi became a renowned painter and bonsai artist whose work reflected both beauty and balance of the natural world.

A longtime and devoted member of the Boise Bonsai Club, Suzi shared her passion and knowledge with countless students, teaching the delicate arts of root raking, pruning, and wiring to create living sculptures of trees shaped to mirror the grace and wisdom of ancient forests.

Suzi was also an avid skier who loved carving turns down the slopes of Bogus Basin and Brundage Mountain. Her adventurous spirit, creativity, and warmth touched everyone around her, especially her husband, Bob, her son, Jonas, and her daughter, Morgan, who will forever miss her radiant smile and uplifting outlook on life.

Her grandchildren, Wolfgang, Scarlett, Delia, and Cleo, her Sisters Janis Johnson Reese and Julie Johnson will remember how Suzi filled each holiday with magic, sewing dolls and costumes, and decorating with pumpkin girls and a magical Christmas tree adorned with glass ornaments collected over a life time.

Suzi now joins her parents, Beverly Gochnour Johnson and Wayne Johnson, as well as her three cherished Boston Terriers, in the afterlife. Her spirit continues to inspire those who were lucky enough to know and love her.
