Darrell Long Obituary

Darrell Long
TAYLOR - Darrell Glenn Long, 72, our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away with his family at his side November 7, 2011.
Darrell was born March 31, 1939, in Lincoln, Idaho, to his parents, Glenn Christensen Long and Hazel Almeda Hymas. He was third of six children. He was raised in Ammon, Idaho, and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1957. There he met his best friend and sweetheart, Sharon Andrus.
Darrell and Sharon were sealed for time and all eternity on June 18, 1958, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They have been married for 53 years. Darrell and Sharon resided in Taylor, Idaho, for the past 41 years, where they have become fixtures in the community.
Darrell was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings. He loved the youth and served many years as a Scoutmaster and other assignments with the Boy Scouts of America. He had a great love for little children and many fondly called him "Grandpa Long." During his retirement he served two church missions, Nauvoo, Illinois, and the Willie Historical Handcart Site in Wyoming.
He made his living as a metal specialist and master craftsman. He worked for Idaho Steel Products, Bingham Mechanical, and Argonne National Labs. He taught classes for union men and at the Eastern Idaho Technical College. He also owned and ran a small metal shop and tree business. He enjoyed creating many beautiful and useful metal items.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; and children, Becky Butler (Mark), Natalie Sanders (Kelly), Nikki Mulder (Steve), Andrea Blatnick (Neil), Lovenia Warren (Robert), Kristan Long (Kim), Jeannine Conrad (Jason); his brothers, Lester Long (Karen, Gaylen Long (Nancy); sisters, Ann Tyler (Fenton) and Maxine Black (Richard). He has 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at a viewing Friday evening, November 11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 W. Oak) in Shelley. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday November 12 at the Taylor/Jameston Chapel (1101 E. 1250 N., Shelley). Interment will be at the Taylor Cemetery (720 E. 129 S., Idaho Falls).
Condolences can be sent to the family at www.nalderfuneralhome.com.
