Darrell Dean Schultz, 75, of Pocatello, Idaho passed away March 11, 2013 at Yuma Regional Medical Center after a long struggle with illness. Darrell was born November 30, 1937 in LeMars, Iowa, in the midst of the great depression, to Carl and Lula Schultz. He would become the oldest of seven children. Darrell joined the Navy after high school, where he had many new experiences and adventures. After leaving the Navy, Darrell became a truck driver. He met Jane Alsager (Kindred, North Dakota) in 1965 while on a double date with her roommate. The two were married on August 6, 1966. This year they would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.
Darrell and Jane farmed in LeMars, Iowa for a brief period of time. Along with the farming, Darrell continued to drive truck. They had two children, Clint and Sara (O'Connor). In 1977 Darrell and Jane moved to Pocatello, Idaho and have resided there ever since. Darrell continued his career as a professional truck driver. He earned the coveted one million mile safe driving award. He also considered it an accomplishment to have driven in all fifty states, Canada, and Mexico. He reluctantly retired due to illness in 2000. He loved the open road and seeing the entire country grow and change before his eyes. Darrell and Jane enjoyed camping and RVing with friends and members of the Travelin' Sams. After their retirement they began spending their winters in Yuma, Arizona enjoying the winter sun and warm climate in their RV until they later purchased a park model home there. Darrell was a big sports fan who loved to camp, hunt, fish, and golf. He would pass those loves onto his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, as well as his great-granddaughter. He is survived by his wife Jane, his children Clint (Jennifer) and Sara O'Connor, 7 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Darrell is also survived by 3 brothers and 2 sisters and their families.
