David Richard Eike, born August 30, 1925 in Lewistown, Montana went to be with his Lord on November 4, 2013. He was the son of Ole and Elsie (Cox) Eike. Dave grew up on a sheep and cattle ranch in the small Montana community of Forest Grove with his brothers, Osten, Don and Elric, and his sister, Elesa.
In October of 1946 Dave joined the Army following World War II, and was stationed in Japan with the Army of Occupation. After serving his country, Dave attended Billings Business College where he earned his Associate's Degree. On August 26, 1950 he married Angeline Stendal in Lewistown, Montana. After her death, he married Patsy Ann Buck of Flagstaff Arizona on June 19, 1971. Together they raised their seven children: Rick and Dawn Eike, Steve, Sally, Sarah, and Shirley Buck, and Eric Eike.
Dave began his career with Farmer's Insurance in 1951. He was known as a hard worker and effective manager. He was proud of earning his CPCU and retired from the company in 1990 after 40 years.
Dave was a dedicated Christian and an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather (13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren) and enjoyed attending their sports, school, church, and community activities.
Dave and Patsy were enthusiastic participants in Lutheran Marriage Encounter and spent 12 years as area directors with Educational Foundation, placing numerous international students with families in southeast Idaho.
In his retirement, Dave enjoyed travel in the U.S. and abroad including France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and his native country, Norway. He treasured time spent visiting his children and dear friends, and attending family reunions in Montana.
He kept active and fit playing golf, camping, fishing, and dancing. He loved a good game of cards.
Dave is survived by his wife Patsy, and children Eric (Toni) and sons Anthony and Austin of Boise; Rick and daughter, Mandy; Steve (Paula) and children, Andrea (Scott), Heidi (Brady), Hailey, and Carson of Pocatello; Sally McMinimee (Jim, deceased) and children, Connor, Kate, and Sean of Salt Lake, City; Sarah Dugan (Dan) and daughters, Erin and Allyson of Salt Lake City; Dawn Hines and children, Angela, Devin, and Jeffrey David of Aurora, Colorado; Shirley Coly (Edgard) and children, Fabrice, Cedric, and Eloise of Monterey, California.
A memorial service celebrating Dave's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1350 Baldy Avenue, Pocatello. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Dave to Grace Lutheran School Scholarship Fund.
