Dolores Nanninga Obituary

Dolores J. Nanninga
POCATELLO - Dolores J. Nanninga, 78, of Pocatello, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2008, in her home after an illness, surrounded by her children. Moments before passing, Joyce Weaver had completed playing a set of beautiful harp music for her.
She was born to Helen (Ellis) and Lowell Coffelt on January 31, 1930, in Portland, Ore., and married Fred Nanninga on April 23, 1948. They met in geology class at Lewis and Clark College in Portland. She later attended Idaho State University and taught art for 12 years at Pocatello and Highland High Schools.
She enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors, everything from landscapes and animals to abstract art. The family was also very active in the horse community. Dolores rode with the Silver Sage Riders, a horseback square dance group in the early '60s, she and her daughters competed in horse show dressage and jumping, and the entire family enjoyed mountain trail riding in Island Park, the Tetons, and Stanley Basin.
She and her husband owned and operated the Blue Willow Farm on Philbin Road in Chubbuck, where they raised, trained, and boarded show horses. Besides painting and riding, her interests included science, philosophy, and world culture.
She is survived by three children, Steve, Sheri, and Carol; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three cute little dogs. Her husband preceded her in death less than three years ago.
A memorial life-celebration event will be held at her home in early summer when friends and family can gather, details of which will be published later. Arrangements are being handled by Downard Funeral Home.
