Ernest Hedstrom Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ernest Udell Hedstrom, who departed this life at his home on July 28, 2025, surrounded by his family at the age of 78.

Udell was born on May 12, 1947, to Anna Marie Blaser and Donald Hedstrom in Logan Utah. Udell lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his friends, and he had an incredible work ethic which led to his success as the owner of East Side Crown and Bridge Dental Lab. Udell had a quiet generosity as he helped so many people over the years.

He is preceded in Death, by his parents and his daughter Kelly Williamson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Susan Hedstrom; his son, Jason Hedstrom and his wife Michelle; and his cherished grandchildren: Jadon Hedstrom, Jenna Satterfield, Ellie, Easton, Marlee, Hedstrom and Katelyn Williamson; and a great grandson Rowan Satterfield. He is also survived by his brother, Duane Hedstrom, and his sister, Carol McNabb.

Udell started his work life at 8 years old washing dishes at the Lariat Café for his mother who was a fry cook. Over the years he did various other jobs as he grew up working at places like the Green T, Caches, and collecting and selling golf balls across southern Idaho and northern Utah with his friend Steve Lagos.

In Highschool he carried the Olympic torch partway from Pocatello to American Falls where he ran barefoot as a member of the Pocatello Highschool track team.

Udell was drafted in 1968 where he and 2 other people out of the entire draft battalion were sent to Germany to drive semi due to their previously held security clearances from working at the Hill Airforce base depot. He was released from the draft in December of 1968. He met the love of his life 1 month out of the military where they were married for 56 years.

He was an avid beekeeper, he loved listening to Lee Child audio books, he loved hunting and fishing, he loved roaming the mountains where he could hunt for rocks and crystals. He spent many years helping with scouts and coaching softball.

During his professional career he started East Side Crown & Bridge Dental Lab, where he worked there for close to 50 years. He became a Certified Dental Technician and while he working Udell served as President of the Idaho State Dental Lab Association for several years. He retired in 2017.

A viewing will be held on August 2nd starting at 10am and the memorial service begins at 11am at his church Cedar Hills Ward located at 5425 Bannock Highway, Pocatello Idaho, where family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate his life.

The family would like to express special thanks to Heritage Home Health and Hospice for their loving and caring services to the family.

He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Susan, I read this evening of Udell's passing and want to express my condolances to you and your family. I enjoyed both our personal relationship and our business relationship with you both during our years in Pocatello. Udell was a very kind and personable man. We now live in St. George, Utah so we won't be able to make it to the funeral. We wish we could be there for you but hope all goes well and that you are blessed with great memories of him and great future years ahead. Love and Blessings to you.

My gosh Udell was such a nice gentleman. I first met him in his office and over the years we became friends. It was such a pleasure to know such a knowledgeable man that did not have a mean or unkind word about anyone. Gentle voice, wonderful laugh with his sense of humor. Thank you for giving me the privilege of knowing you. Rest well with all the other Angels. Bless your family.
