Jennie Jensen Obituary

Jennie Jensen
1917 - 2016
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Jennie Jensen, passed away peacefully with her family about her, February 21, 2016, from conditions incident to old age. She was born January 14, 1917, in Downey, Idaho. She was the 7th of 12 children born to Charles Albert and Jennie Vene Stoddard Royter. She was raised and lived the joy and excitement of family life in the country. She remained close to her family all her life. She worked as a nanny and telephone operator. She and her siblings worked hard all week and looked forward to the weekends and dancing.
She eventually came to Pocatello to help her sister. She met Cleon Ludlie "Tom" Jensen at a dance. They dated on and off for years. They married December 24, 1942. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 22, 1971. Tom served in the Navy during World War II. Shortly after the birth of their first child, Judy, Jennie moved to California. They lived in Oakland, while Tom was stationed at the Alameda Naval Air Base. They returned to Pocatello after the war and had two more children, Thomas Ray and Phillip Carl. Jennie spent the rest of her life here.
Jennie was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved house keeping and created a warm and welcoming home. She sewed clothing for the family, embroidered her linen and canned food from their garden. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various capacities until her advanced age made activity impossible. Jennie and Tom loved to dance and entertain and were active in politics. Mom was thrilled to have shaken hands with President John F Kennedy. Jennie was an artist and produced many beautiful works of art over the years, in various mediums. Pencil and chalk drawings and clay sculptures were her favorites.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Charles Albert Riter, Anona Lewis, Wanda Hannah Carlson, Florence Marie Coffin, Dean Aquilla Royter, Dorothy Hailstone, Roy Royter, Essie Allen, George Royter, Richard LaMonte Royter and Teddy Reese Royter.
She is survived by her children, Judy (Dale) Kirkman, Thomas Ray (Dianne) Jensen and Phillip Carl (Karlee) Jensen; sister-in- law, June Royter; 17 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to the wonderful care givers at Helping Hands Home Health, Encompass Hospice and Monte Vista Hills Health Care.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83201, 208-233-1500.

We deeply miss and love Jennie and her family! I wish I could have got to know her better. I loved witnessing her silly interactions with our grandma Essie. So much love your way!
