Lance Neal Obituary

Lance Arthur Neal
October 3, 1954 - December 30, 2015
Lance Arthur Neal, 61, passed away at home in Pocatello, Idaho, in the loving embrace of his family on December 30, 2015, after losing his courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on October 3, 1954, to Arthur A. and Frances M. Neal in Pocatello where he was raised. He attended elementary and junior high school at Hawthorne and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1973.
He received certificates in both Welding and Electronic Technology from Idaho State University. His lifetime of work included Bucyrus-Erie in Pocatello; traveled the country with Anestos Trading, Inc.; and then relocated for many years to the Portland, Oregon, area to work at Tektronix, Inc. He returned to Pocatello in 2008, and since the age of 55 had been a volunteer for Foster Grandparents of SE Idaho.
Lance enjoyed gardening, playing cards with family and friends, and following his team: the Portland Trail Blazers. Lance also loved his time with children through Foster Grandparents and especially enjoyed introducing them to Spanish with books and language, most recently at Edahow Elementary School.
He is survived by his mother (Francy) to whom he was devoted; siblings: Theresa J. (Peter) Anestos of Pocatello, Von Arthur Neal of Hayward, CA, Catherine N. (Mitchell) Symons of Post Falls, ID, Margaret A. (Roy) Bluemel of Roy, UT, and Mark Arthur (Lisa) Neal of Coeur d'Alene, ID; and numerous nephews and nieces that loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father (Art).
A private service will be held sometime later this year.
Lance and his family wish to give thanks to his caregivers at the Portneuf Cancer Center, especially Dr. Michael Callaghan, and at Encompass Home Health & Hospice, for their professionalism, care and compassion.

Grandpa Lance was a kind and generous soul. He was always concerned with others. He shared his love of Spanish with the children at Edahow and was dedicated to helping children learn to read. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to know and work with him.

Grandpa Lance, as the children and I called him will be missed very much. Edahow as well as myself and the children were very lucky to have him at the school.
