Martha Bohrer Obituary

Martha Laws Bohrer, our feisty, generous, straight-talking, firecracker of a mom passed peacefully on Nov. 4, 2025 in Pocatello, Idaho, surrounded by family just five weeks after celebrating her 95th birthday.

It was fitting, being the cat-lover she was, that she seemed to live at least nine lives. And what lives they were! She had a "never met a stranger" mentality, which would serve her well over her lifetime. She loved music, from Mozart to Willie Nelson. She played the piano and the occasional ukelele, sang soprano in her church choir, and was a still life and portrait painter in oils. She was very athletic, playing lots of tennis and golf, once even making a hole-in-one. Martie was a fanatical bridge player with a merry band of ladies who played regularly in each other's homes. She was an avid reader to the very end of her life. But back to the beginning.

Martie was born and raised during the Great Depression in Moravian Falls, N.C. on Sept. 27, 1930 to Addie and Shafter Laws; the youngest of three children. Her siblings were Bob and Cis, who preceded her in death. The family moved to MD., near Washington D.C., as WWII began, and Martie graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1947. She returned to N.C. to attend and graduate from Appalachian State Teachers College, where she thrived. She was involved in Honor Society, basketball, cheerleading, sang in a trio, and was Homecoming Queen. She graduated with degrees in P.E. and Elementary Education.

She met Norm Propst at college and they were married in N.C. They soon moved to MD, where Martie taught school, then to Detroit, MI., then to Wichita Falls, TX., where she met her first lifelong group of pals. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church Choir, and her social life completely revolved around those activities and fellow choir members. Martie's daughters were born and the family became heavily southern-accented Texans until the move to Pocatello in 1966. This is where Martie met her second tribe of friends she'd keep the rest of her life.

Martie's first marriage ended eventually but then she met her match in Ed Bohrer. They married in 1982 and soon her days as a 5th grade teacher ended and her life as a world traveler began. She felt lucky to have set foot on every continent except Antarctica.

We will miss her unique spiritedness and are thankful for her "long run," being as sharp as a tack. Martie is survived by her three daughters Barbara, Paula (Steve), Becky (Bob) and her grandson Carson. Also by Ed's children, Bill (Penny} and Peggy (Gene) as well as grandchildren Adam, Scott, Chris and Mark. Lastly, by nieces Beth, Anne, Lonnie and Bobby Anderson.

We'd like to thank Hospice, especially Shell Povey, for her excellent care and bonding with mom over the last six months of her life. The family will honor Martie's request for no funeral services but there will be a celebration of life in the spring.

So sorry for your loss. I taught with Martie at Lincoln. She was an amazing teacher and co-worker. She always had a smile and energy!
