Martin (Marty) John Richardson, a witty intelligent man whose sharp humor and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him, passed away in
Blackfoot, Idaho on December 18, 2025 at the age of 68. Marty was born August 25, 1957 in
Los Alamos, New Mexico to Lee and Joyce (Jo) Richardson. They later moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania where he graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy. Marty eventually relocated to Idaho Falls where he began a long successful 30 year career with the USPS. It was in Idaho Falls where he met and married the love of his life Erin Gardner. Marty and Erin married in July 1992 after a long courtship, this union let him become the loving father of her two children Heidi and Jeremiah. Erin unexpectedly passed away in May of 1996. After her passing Marty continued to be a rock and loving father to their children who later brought the joy of being a grandfather to his life. Several years later in 2013 Marty was reunited with a true love from his past, Lisa Hobley. Marty and Lisa married on September 29, 2018 and made their home in Blackfoot where he added 4 more children and several more grandchildren to his family- his heart was big enough to share his love with everyone-he always said "blood does not make you family".
A devoted family man, Marty found his greatest joy in the time spent with those he loved the most. In Marty's travels and career with the Postal Service he made many friends. Whether he was your mail carrier or one of his many friends, some that he made later in life in Lake Havasu City, he was a steady presence, a thoughtful listener, and a source of laughter-often delivered with perfect timing and a knowing smile. His wit was quick, his insights were deep, and conversations with him were never dull.
Marty had a lifelong love of golf, trivia and the Philadelphia Eagles. Whether cheering peacefully from his couch, playing trivia from his favorite bar stool, or walking the fairways with his friends and daughter, these pursuits brought him excitement, joy and peace. He appreciated the quietness and strategy of the game of golf, the camaraderie it created, and the stories that followed-stories he told especially well. (including his "actual" golf score).
Above all else, Marty will be remembered for his love of family-that he often said had nothing to do with blood, his intelligence, and his ability to make people laugh while making them feel truly seen. His legacy lives on in the memories shared, the many lessons taught, and the love he gave so freely.
