March 17, 1935 - February 26, 2014
Nephi Lamar Smith, 78, of American Falls, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at his home following an extended illness. He was born on March 17, 1935 in Pocatello, Idaho to Nephi Plain and Carolin (Southworth) Smith. He was raised in Pocatello, went to Pocatello Schools and then entered the military. Nephi served in the US Army during the Korean Police Action. After being honorably discharged from the service, Nephi worked construction and also for the City of Pocatello. He married Carolyn Winthers on November 28, 1958 in Pocatello. Together Nephi and Carolin were blessed to have four children; Mindy, Sally, Andy and Roy. Nephi belonged to the VFW. Nephi was an excellent mechanic. He loved fishing, camping and being with his kids. He especially loved building and racing stock cars.
Nephi was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Gladys Basket and Donna Hensley and Irma Hensley. Nephi is survived by his wife, Carolin of American Falls; children, Mindy (Manuel) Medina, Sally (Bob) Curran, Andy (Tammy) Smith all of Pocatello and Roy (Gina) Smith of American Falls. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at a viewing on Monday, March 3rd at 10:00 A.M. at Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Ave. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Sugar City Cemetery. Friends who wish may send condolences to the family through Downard Funeral Home.

I think of Nephi and I have a warm feeling in my heart. I can't think of any thing that fun and educational with Nephi it was fun, I love this man.

My love and thanks go out to the Smith family. I have very fond memories of racing and spend time with Nephi and family. Thanks for being a friend to. Rest in peace Nephi !
