Stania Frederickson Obituary
Stania Vaclava Frederickson
POCATELLO - Stania Vaclava Frederickson (born Stanislava Vaclava Hagenova), 64, of Pocatello, passed away peacefully following an illness on Monday, September 3, 2012, in the company of family members at her home.
Stania was born to Vladimir and Marketa Hagen in Bruntal, Czechoslovakia, on June 14, 1948. She attended public schools and graduated from Bruntal Gymnasium.
In 1976, Stania emigrated to the U.S. to escape the oppressive yoke of communism after achieving political asylum in West Germany. In the U.S. she quickly learned her fifth language and studied diligently to become an accountant, rising through positions up to and including director of finance. She was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1986 and retired from Hilton Hotels in 2003.
Those who met and came to know Stania were always impressed by her grace and unique perspective on life in the U.S. as compared to other countries and cultures.
Stania and Joe Frederickson were married July 4, 1982 at the Historic Mission Inn in Riverside, California. She was without peer as a supporter of her husband's work in newspapers and in higher education. She loved her family deeply, as they did her, as well as a succession of family dogs over the years, namely, Otto, Fifi, Luci, Rudi, Yogi and Emma, who survives.
She kept a warm and loving home in the places she and Joe lived: Seattle, Riverside, Toledo, Palm Desert and Pocatello. Her eye for the natural beauty of outdoor scenes and wildlife produced often breathtaking photography and she also dabbled from time to time as a sketch artist. She was an avid golfer, having played a minimum of 50 rounds in Pocatello in 2010 and 2011 and as often as possible in cities in which she lived and on family vacations over the years.
Stania's kitchen was the source of meals in the European tradition. When she placed one of her creations in front of a guest who'd never seen or tasted anything like that before and they partook, her famous smile of joy illuminated the room.
Stania was the living example of one who put the wishes and interests of everyone else first. "Thoughtful" doesn't come close to describing her, as everyone who met her would attest.
She is survived by her husband, Joe, of Pocatello; a sister, Svatava Pistekova of Bruntal, Czech Republic, and stepdaughter Raina Frederickson of Olympia, Wash.
The family thanks Dr. Michael Francisco and Dr. Steven Todd and the staff of the Portneuf Cancer Center for their valiant efforts and care. Thanks also go to the people of Encompass Hospice - particularly Ms. Cree Hall, RN - for their kind and loving care of Stania and support of the family; to Father John Worster, and to Mr. Lance Peck of Downard Funeral Home for his caring and respectful service.
As per her wishes, Stania was cremated under the care and direction of Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield, Pocatello, Idaho, (208) 233-0686. To honor her wishes, no public services are being planned.
