Trudy Hernandez Obituary

Trudy Marjean Hernandez, 78 of Fort Hall passed away at her home on January 5, 2023.

Trudy was born on January 30, 1945 in Gooding, Idaho on the family farm. Being raised in Gooding, Trudy was always on the farm working outside, helping with the animals; draft horses for working the fields, milk cows, chickens, pigs and riding horses. When the many chores were done, she would be in the desert riding her horse, often visiting and playing in the Dead Horse Caves or swimming in the Big Wood River. In high school she trained colts for spending money. She loved to rodeo; barrel racing and pole bending, and made it to the National Finals in 1963. She was a founding member of the local women's horseback riding drill team, Liberty Bells.

She was a homemaker, licensed beautician, 4-H Leader, and race horse trainer. Her favorite job was as a teacher's aide at Grace Lutheran School in Pocatello, where she was known as Grandma Trudy. She was a fierce protector and advocate of children and animals.

On April 23, 1980, Trudy married Robert Hernandez. Bob always called her his "desert flower" with a smirk. They have been married for 43 wonderful years.

Later in life, Trudy developed a special interest in genealogy. She spent countless hours researching old records and became quite good at it. One of her favorite things to do, was take a road trip. She loved trips with family and friends, with Yellowstone National Park as her most visited. Playing pinochle and eating fudge were treasured pastimes.

Trudy's love blanketed her grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews in a tapestry of warmth and support. Whether it was sharing stories of their adventures, helping with chores, or relishing moments of joy like riding in the wheelbarrow and playing by the old race horse gates, her presence was a beacon of love and laughter. The sound of her infectious laugh echoed the affection she had for each one, making every hug a comforting reminder of the deep and enduring bond they shared.

Trudy was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter~day saints and served in various callings.

Trudy is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert Hernandez; step-daughters, Cindy(Erik) Pearson of Nampa, Idaho; Charlotte (Jim) Wasia of Blackfoot, Idaho; daughter, Wendy (David) Corrigan of Idaho Falls, Idaho; step sons, Tom (Becky) Hayes of Buckly, Michigan; Shawn Hernandez of Tonopah, Arizona; sisters, Georgia (Darrell) Smith of Middleton, Idaho; Donna Alger of Mountain Home, Idaho; brother in laws, Les Hernandez of Pocatello, Idaho; Clyde Lowther of McCammon, Idaho; nephews Rod (Charmaine) Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada; Beau (Anj) Lowther of Pocatello, Idaho nieces Barbara Smith of Middleton, Idaho; Patricia (Dave) Howe of Boise, Idaho; great nieces and nephews, Chris, Jessica, Alexandra, Braeden, and Lexxi. I absolutely loved Trudy! I remember going with my parents, Jim and Julia Woodland, to visit her often as a youth. I remember petting her fat cats while they visited. She had an easy smile that was contagious. Latter on I loved when she visited most Saturdays at our little Caramel Apple Cottage where she would buy fudge often. It was fun seeing her and visiting with her. She was such a joy. She will be missed by so many.

What a treasure was Grandma Trudy! I had the pleasure of working with Trudy during her time at Grace Lutheran where she was a wonderful caring staff member who loved on kids with great compassion and care. We were so thankful to have Trudy on our team where she blessed many children during their preschool years.
Our prayers are with your family during this time of loss and we ask for God's peace to surround you.

Trudy had a very infectious smile, where you couldn't be in a bad mood around her. She was a very kind and considerate person, who liked people and loved horses. I was privileged to have been a classmate of Trudy's from the Gooding High School class of "63". She was as cowgirl growing up and I think she was always a cowgirl at heart. She was also one of my Facebook buddies. She was one wonderful human being, who I am sure will be missed by many. Condolences to her family for their loss.
Regards,
Ken Baumgartner
