Alice Corder Obituary

Alice Corder, 84, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Diamond View Assisted Living in Meridian, Idaho. A viewing will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, January 28, 2011 at Cloverdale Funeral Home with a Memorial service following at 11:00 am. She was born March 8, 1926 in Boise, Idaho to Charles Harvey Thompson and Clara Ruth Thompson, the second of four children. She grew up in the Roswell, Idaho area. She married Estel Leroy "Bud" Corder on September 11, 1943 in Roswell, Idaho. While Bud was serving in the Army during World War II, Alice finished high school, graduating from Roswell High in 1944. Upon Bud's return from the War, the couple began their married life in the Roswell area. In 1945, the couple welcomed their son, Steven, and in 1947, their daughter, Margaret was born. In the fall of 1949, Bud took a job with Orange Truck Line, and the family moved to Cascade, Idaho, where their daughter, Patricia was born in 1951. While living in Cascade, Alice worked hard as a homemaker and mother to her young children. She babysat other children, took in ironing, and sewed most of her children's clothes. She had many friends, and was an active member of the Valley Bible Center Church. When Bud was transferred to McCall, Idaho for his job with PIE Trucking, Alice set up their household and quickly became a part of that community. She became a member of the Missionary Bible Church, and was in the Ladies' Missionary Society, where she sewed quilts and tore clothing to make bandages to ship to Third World countries. While in McCall, Alice took up bowling, and greatly enjoyed competing with the ladies in her league. Her team made it to regionals, and she was very proud of the trophy she won. In 1965, they moved to Boise, Idaho, where Alice was a long time member of Hillview Church of the Nazarene. She served on the board, on various committees, and was a greeter for many years. After Bud's death in 2004, Alice moved to Diamond View Assisted Living in Meridian, Idaho. Alice is survived by her children, Steven (Lonnie) Corder, Margaret (Bill) Cox, and Patty (Wes) Bell; sister, Lois (Jay) Thorp; brother, Loyd (Pat) Thompson; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Bud, her husband of 61 years; parents, Harvey and Ruth; brother, Kenneth; and granddaughter, Jennifer Cox. Mom was always a great cook, loved to bake cookies and cakes, and was an exceptional housekeeper. We remember her spending hours ironing clothes and scrubbing floors. She also made clothing for special occasions for us girls. Whatever we picked, she could make. We will miss not having her here to talk to and confide in. We will miss her smile and her laughter. Mom, I will miss coming to see you to check on what you need, and how you are doing. I will miss my weekly visits. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Diamond View Assisted Living for making Mom's last year's comfortable. We'd also like to extend a special thanks to Tina Lima, who personally cared for Mom at Diamond View and was with her in her last moments. Aunt Alice was a wonderful person and will be missed by many. I praise her highly for her love for Jesus. She is with Uncle Bud now and together I am sure have many things to take care of in heaven. God be with you all and I am so sorry for your loss of someone you all loved so much. God rest her soul and be with all of you. Love Barbie (Conn) Pratt, husband Randy and our Family.
