Bert Eckwortzel passed away at home November 15, 2015. He had been undergoing treatment for melanoma.
Bert was born in Crescent City, California. The family moved to Council, Idaho and then settled in Star, Idaho near the Boise River. He and his brother loved fishing and trapping in the area and had many wild pets such as raccoons and skunks. After graduation from high school, he enlisted with the Navy and served four years aboard the refueler USS Allagash in the Mediterranean.
He returned to civilian life after spending several months in Hawaii with his brother. Bert then worked in sales for several years in the Boise area, retired in 2014 after 16 years with Low's Concrete. Low's provided many opportunities for Bert to be outdoors and to work hard. To relax he enjoyed fishing and camping. Very few roads were unknown to Bert and camping in the motor home was a great pleasure. The Sage Hen annual camping trip or Burley Boat Races with other motor home revelers was something he rarely missed. He also enjoyed tinkering and fixing things; it was often said that if Bert couldn't fix it, it wasn't worth fixing!
Bert met Renai Brogdon at a Halloween party in 2002; they were constant companions thereafter and enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, and entertaining friends. See you on the other side, Sparky!
Bert is survived by his brother, Jim; a son, Eric; two daughters, Jeana and Haley, and several nieces.
