Bryce Gochnour Obituary

Bryce Clark Gochnour
September 16, 1936 - August 8, 2022
Boise, Idaho - Bryce Clark Gochnour went to be with his precious Lord Jesus on August 8, 2022, after succumbing to the complications of Lymphoma. He loved the Lord, his family and friends, his native state of Idaho, and especially the young patients he treated as an Orthodontist. He was a sports fanatic and adored his Boise State Broncos.
Born and raised in Burley, Idaho, Bryce was the seventh of eight children to Clyde and Bertha Gochnour. As a "Burley Bobcat", he excelled in high school baseball and basketball before attending the University of Utah. As a freshman in college, he met Luanne, the love of his life and wife of 62 years. Bryce graduated with an engineering degree and worked for General Electric's defense division for five years. Following his heart, he pursued a career change and attended the University of San Francisco School of Dentistry to become an Orthodontist. It turned out to be his true-calling, combining his love for people and a pursuit of perfection into making beautiful smiles.
Bryce and his young family moved to Boise in 1967 to start his Orthodontic practice. When not straightening teeth, he had a green thumb for amazing flower beds, lush gardens, and manicured lawns. Bryce played competitive tennis into his 80's but could never master the never-ending frustrations of golf.
Bryce was a dedicated husband, wonderful father, an exemplary man of integrity, and never turned down an opportunity to play with his kids or grandkids. We will miss his big smile, enthusiastic greetings, chuckles when being teased, meltdowns on the golf course, and fiery spirit watching Boise State games.
He is survived by Luanne, his loving wife, three children Derek, Mark, and Kara, seven grandchildren, older sister Beverly Johnson and older brother Ralph Gochnour.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to your church ministry. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 3rd, at 5:00 pm in a casual, outdoor setting at Eagle Hills Golf Club.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.

I delivered mail to Bryce and Lou for over 20 years. I loved visiting with them. I retired in 2020 and didn´t get to talk with them much. I miss him and his wife.

Dear Luanne, I met you in San Francisco when I was 18, in 1963. We never saw each other again, but you and Bryce made an amazing impression on me. My husband, Morris Nakamura, has never forgotten your love and kindness. You supported him through his roughest days in dental school. You invited him over to your place often, went to church with him and encouraged him. You were very short on cash and time, but you made a place for a lonely young man in your very busy lives. We have often wished we could see you both again and thank you in person. Morris has truly served the Lord all his life in the most beautiful ways. You and Bryce have had an important part in our lives. We look forward to seeing Bryce again. Luanne, we love you and will be forever grateful to you.

I have often thought of and have fond memories of Dr. Gochnour who was my orthodontist from 8th grade to 12th grade (yes, my teeth were terribly crooked). Shortly after starting his practice on Orchard street, near the first McDonald's in Boise, I became the first of four children in our family who had orthodontic treatment with Dr. Gochnour. After the two hour drive from up North, we were always greeted by his big smile and his genuine interest in how our family was doing. I am still thankful to both my parents and Dr. Gochnour for a smile I can be proud of.
We also saw him yearly at the Western Idaho State Fair where we participated in 4-H with our sheep and we sought him out to say hi at a milk shake/hamburger booth sponsored by his church and where he donated time and served milk shakes with a smile and we were pleased he still remembered us.
It has been long ago that I had braces but every time I drive by his old office on Orchard or his newer office on Cole, or I receive a compliment on my smile, I think of him fondly and picture him with that big smile.
My sympathies to his close friends and family, I know he will be deeply missed.

Bryce will be always remembered for so many reasons. John and I are sad for you Lu, the kids and grandkids. Gosh, I think the last time we saw Kara aka "Boo" she had broken her leg on the trampoline. Good friends/good people are never forgotten.

God bless you.

We are so sad to hear about Bryce. He with his wife Lu were the best neighbors and friends ever and we cherish the time we had with them in Boise and then later at their home in the desert. We will miss him. Our prayers are with their family.

My sister, brother and myself were patients of Dr. Gochnour. Then when my sons were old enough they also were given the brightest most beautiful smiles that were a trademark of Dr. Gochnour. What a legacy he has left behind with so many beautiful smiles.
