Catherine Marie Stringer

Catherine Marie Stringer 1981 - 2012 Catherine was born March 31, 1981 in Mission Hills, CA and passed away February 16, 2012, in Haverford, PA. She was the youngest daughter of Roger and Patricia (Artis) Stringer of Chico, CA and wife of Barak Mendelsohn of Haverford, PA, a professor of Political Science at Haverford College. Catherine was reared in Los Angeles where she attended Mary Mount Jr. School, St. Paul the Apostle School, and Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, CA. She graduated from UC San Diego and earned a Masters degree in International Education from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Following her graduation, Catherine traveled around the world for a year through Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. She spent the last three months of her trip in China, attending Chinese language school in hopes of returning to teach. Instead, she spent the last four years of her young life championing young cancer survivors and inspiring all those around her with her smile and positive spirit. Catherine continued her love of travel while fighting cancer. In her last years, she attended family and friend's graduations, weddings, and baby showers all over the U.S., and just for fun, cruised South America and Eastern Canada with her husband, Barak. She is survived by her husband, Barak Mendelsohn, her parents, Roger and Patricia (Artis) Stringer, sisters Jocelyn Stringer of San Francisco, CA and Caroline Stringer of Modesto, CA, brother Patrick Stringer of Sherman Oaks, CA., Aunt and Uncle Gus and Paula (Artis) Schappacher of Boise, ID, Lucille Stringer Rennie of Balgonie, Sask., Canada, Uncle Ed Johnson of Branford, CT, and scores of cousins. Catherine spent many summers in Idaho and her fondest memories were of the happy times at her family's cabin at Warm Lake, where she visited this past summer, fishing with her father, and looking for huckleberries. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, April 14, 2012, at St Paul the Apostle Church, Los Angeles.
